Light Arcanine

Ahh, a new RK9. Base RK9 was a powerhouse, so was Blaine's RK9. Even Promo RK9 was decent. Let's see whether this Light version is any good. 100HP is really good for a Stage 1. 2 Retreat Cost is decent. Now, let's look at the Power and attack.

Drive Off is an interesting Power, I guess. It hurts you more though since your opponent would probably get a Baby out and you might not be able to attack. It would be good if your opponent has only one bench Pokemon. You can then "Gust" it for free. But otherwise, the Power is pretty bad. Plus, you always have to use the Power if you can... =/

Gentle Flames isn't such a good attack. Basically with 3 energies, you either do 10 to a Baby or 30 to a Basic or 50 to an evolved Pokemon. Let's break it down. 10 damage for 3 energies is really bad. 30 damage for 3 energies is about even, but considering that you're using colored energies, 40 should've been a better number. Now, 50 damage for 3 energies is pretty dang good. It's basically a Flamethrower without having to discard any Fire Energy cards.

What I'm saying is, the attack is VERY situational. In Unlimited, a lot of players don't even play evolutions. In Modified, although evolutions are running rampant, so are Babies.

In Draft, Babies are kinda scarce so you're either doing 30 damage or 50. The really high HP is really awesome! It's a pretty good pick in draft.

Unlimited Rating: 1.7/5 (Not that many Evos in Standard and can't abuse DCE...)
Modified Rating: 2.7/5 (More Evos but more Babies as well...)
Draft Rating: 3.7/5 (I'd always draft something with high HP, especially Stage 1s...)

Pokepop

Ugh. This has to be the worst Arcanine ever!! It gives your opponent a free Switch every turn and in return you.... nothing! Not even the same benefit!

It does a healthy 50 Damage for 3 Energy with no discard. Not bad. But, it only will do it to an evolved Pokemon! It does a mere 30 to a Basic and a pathetic 10 to a Baby! Since your opponent basically gets to choose which of his Pokemon Light Arcanine will be facing, let me guess which one he will choose.... a Baby, you think? The 100 HP are nice, buts that's the only bright spot. Also, if you are playing Draft, this is not too bad. There are no Babies in Destiny and the set that you will probably be co-drafting (Team Rocket) doesn't have Babies either so you will be doing a solid 30-50 damage per turn and the 100HP will last a while in a Draft battle.

Unlimited: 1.25/5

Modified: 1.2/5 (even more Babies in Mod)

Draft: 3.75/5 This is solid in Draft.

Lord Gothmog

Let me just say that Arcanine is my favorite Pokemon. But honestly, this thing sucks.

In unlimited, Base Arcanine should be foil. Not this. Gust of Wind is legal in this format, which means the power is fairly useless. Just play Base. At least Neo Destiny Growlithe is an improvement. 1/5

In modified, there's Warp Point. Not only do they have to switch, but you get to as well. Hey, power's useless here too! It even cures them of their status effects. That's super. Evolutions are played more, but a good deal of them are Feraligatr. Which this is weak to. Bleh. 1/5

In limited, it's a better choice. It's a 100 HP, and it does damage. The power is just...terrible. But it does do damage. 2.5/5

Random Wednesday... Light Arcanine

"I don't get it."

What's the point of this card? They always will bring up a baby, so you can flip a coin to see if you can do... 10 damage. =/

If you don't wanna constantly gust, don't play this guy. It's not even good against an evolution... 3 for 50 just doesn't cut it in this environment. =/

Standard Rating: 2/5

Modified Rating: 1.5/5

Draft Rating: 3/5

Light Arcanine

Unlimited: Wow, does this really not compare to all the other Arcanines out there. =\ Really, most Basics would slap Light Arcanine silly because it wants to be gentle with them. Wouldn’t you rather go: PlusPower, Discard 1 Fire, 60, Sneasel KO?

Modified: Most Pokémon are either Babies or Evolutions that can wipe Light Arcanine off the face of the planet. Pathetic, not even a chance! Poor Puppy, Smeargle is it’s daddy =\

Limited: An awesome PokéPower, you can really mess around with your opponent. If they have Evolutions you’ll burn for 50, if they have Basics you have 100 HP and will slowly pick them off. Damage adds up! And if you get forms of bench damage in your Draft, abuse this guy! I say take him 1st or 2nd pick, but be weary…

Unlimited (Standard): 1.7/5

Modified: 1.4/5

Limited (Draft): 2.6/5
