Pojo's Pokemon Card of the Day

Walrein LV.51

Diamond & Pearl Mysterious Treasures

Poké-POWER: Freeze-up
Once during your turn, when you play Walrein from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, you may flip 2 coins. If both are heads, discard 1 of the Defending Pokémon and all cards attached to it. (This doesn't count as a Knocked Out Pokémon.)

Unlimited - If you want a 25% chance of getting rid of an opponent's pokemon, use the trainer Minion of Team Rocket. 1/5

Modified - 25% chance of doing major disruption with its power. I don't really like those odds. Ice Bind is a nice attack, doing 70 and a probable discard (unless you're KOing the Defending Pokemon with Ice Bind, in which case the opponent shouldn't care if you paralyze it or not). But it's a little too average for my taste. I like huge powerful 200 damage attacks. Weakness to Metal is cool as there aren't really any usable metal pokemon in the format at the moment. 2/5

Limited - If you're lucky enough to get a Stage 2 out, it could do major pwnage. 70 damage attack and hefty HP. 2/5

My opponents Freeze Up

Unlimited: Most Decks in Unlimited deal enough damage to OHKO your opponent right away.

Rating : 1/5

Modified: Not bad for a Rare as you have the possibility to Discard your opponents right away. And 3 for 70 isn't that bad because your letting your opponent choose to get paralyzed or loose a card from his hand.

Rating : 2.5/5

Limited: If your able to get it out and up then this thing can be cruel. Too bad it has such high Retreat Cost/

Rating : 3/5

Hello everybody, today’s COTD is a very risky card that needs to be played in the right deck to work. The 130 hp on this card rocks, the third most amount of hp a modified legal non-EX pokemon can have (Wailord with 200 being the most and Torterra with 140 being in second.) Walrein’s poke-power is interesting, but made much less useful with only one line “(This doesn't count as a Knocked Out Pokémon.)” That line makes this very risky ability not really worth it. The attack is O.K. 70 damage is nice, but the effect is great. Either the opponent has to discard a card from their hand or they can’t attack next turn (Unless they evolve, switch, Ect…) Metal weakness is nice as nobody uses metal much anymore.

Pros –
Good weakness (The only better one is none.)
130 HP
Paralysis or discard

Cons –
Risky
Opponent chooses if they discard or not

Unlimited – Way too slow, stage two = death 1/5

Modified – little risky, but could work 3.5/5

Limited – this is good, 130 HP is nice and 70 damage is good. Too bad the opponent won’t care to discard useless cards from their hand 4.25/5

I can’t believe it, I got in my first finder-bender (Maybe a little more than finder-bender) yesterday while driving =P,
