						Inkay
						(XY)

						In the video games, Inkay
						evolves into Malamar only
when you hold your 3DS upside down. Yes, it’s extremely
gimmicky, but hey, it’s fun too.

They’ve tried to replicate this feature with the TCG
card, and they have been pretty imaginative about it
						too: Inkay’s Ability allows
you to search your deck for its evolution and evolve it
						provided that Inkay is
						Confused (i.e.: the card is
upside down on the Field). As a concept, I love it, as a
workable TCG mechanic, it’s not very practical. Yes,
						Inkay does have an attack
that inflicts Confusion on both itself and the Defending
Pokémon, but 60 HP Basics are not noted for their
capacity to survive until the next turn. You would much
rather have this card on the Bench and evolve it through
normal means. It doesn’t help of course that you can’t
even use Confusion Wave on your opening turn if you go
						first.

Anything that assists with evolution is better than
nothing I guess, but I can’t see many players choosing
to go down the road of using
						Inkay’s Ability. The real
question, is: is this Pokémon worth evolving at
all? That’s something that I’ll try and answer over the
						next couple of reviews.

						Gurdurr.

						Unlimited 150 review.

Today’s Pokémon up for review is Gurdurr, quite an
unremarkable not-fully-evolved Pokémon. It has decent HP
and ok attacks, so in the case you can’t get it evolved
it can actually put up a fight… but it doesn’t do
anything special and doesn’t synergise particularly well
						with its final Stage.

Hammer Arm does an ok 60 for 3, enough to KO most
starters and can 2 hit KO a great deal of playable
Pokémon. The added effect of discarding the top card of
the opponent’s deck can be seen as a bonus to an already
decent attack but it will rarely make a big difference
in a deck that doesn’t focus on milling.

						Rating:
2.5 (An ok card for a not-fully-evolved, just don’t try
to play it without Conkeldurr in your deck!)
