Tierno

Oh look! It’s Cheren, only fatter and with an amusing t-shirt! Yep, our underwhelming pool of Supporters in now enhanced by a card that is exactly the same as one we already have and don’t play all that much.

Historically, Supporters that draw three cards have been at least decent (TV Reporter, Professor Oak’s Visit), but that was in slower formats where other methods of draw/search existed. We are so completely reliant on draw Supporters right now that we need them to do a lot more, which is why we play Professor Juniper and Colress over the likes of Bianca and Cheren despite the fact that those cards can have quite painful drawbacks.

So I’m very tempted to just dismiss Tierno as a worthless reprint of a card we already have and wish that they had chosen to give us something else from the past instead . . . Steven’s Advice, Lookers’ Investigation maybe . . . only I suppose there is something worthwhile in the ruling that you are free to run both Tierno and Cheren in your deck. It would give you consistency/predictability, if nothing else, and maybe wouldn’t be a bad option for those new, younger players who find Juniper’s discard a bit daunting and aren’t sure when to play N.

Even so, this isn’t the greatest way to set the tone with these new Gen Supporters.

Tierno.

Modified.
Lazy, so so lazy. If you hadn’t realized yet, Tierno is just a functional reprint of Cheren, the current design team for Pokémon TCG just aren’t even trying. In the games Tierno is all about dancing, he never shuts up about Pokémon dancing, so why doesn’t his card reflect this? Something like “Draw 2 cards. You may switch your Active Pokémon with one of your benched Pokémon” would have been nice! Anyway, it’s an ok card and probably one of the only Starter deck cards that might see any competitive play. There’s only so many ways you can just say “draw some cards” on a Supporter and cards like Colress and Juniper, while not as 100% reliable like Tierno, will usually net you a lot more profit.

Unlimited 150.
The problem of being outclassed is even more noticeable here. There’s non-Supporter cards that can draw plenty of cards like Bill and Erika so Tierno seems a little plain to use up your 1 per turn Supporter allowance. There’s not even a full art version of him so you can’t even use it to make your non-rotating deck look more and more flash over the years. Newer U150 players with less cards will probably use him, but only until they obtain better draw cards.
