And now we get to take a look at some of the other...interesting cards of the Steam Siege set. Starting with Ampharos here!

So what does Ampharos do exactly? Well for 3 Energy, you get Gigavolt, which does 80 damage and has a coin flip. Heads gives you 40 more damage, and Tails Paralyzes them. That's...actually not that bad. I mean you don't want to be setting yourself up for gearing towards one effect more than the other *coughcoughTAILScoughcough*, but it's nice to know in lieu of damage, you'll be able to get the best effect in the game. And hey, 120 x 2 = most HP of most M Pokemon-EX!

Speaking of Pokemon-EX, Ampharos is actually designed to help you put pressure on them, as he's also got the Ability Shocking Light! Once a turn, you can put 3 damage counters on any Pokemon-EX your opponent's got - that's it. That's a pretty big Ability, all things considered! Sure, it'll be hard to fight off a deck running Rough Seas, but it can match the damage pretty evenly to make the match-up easier. And if you're up against a deck not running Rough Seas or healing of any kind, well then it's even easier to stack up damage! After all, 6 turns of this Ability KOs most Pokemon-EX, and it's only a couple more turns beyond that to KO M Pokemon-EX!

There is just one caveat to Shocking Light - it's only gonna hit 1 Pokemon-EX per turn, and that's just mainly gonna be used for whatever you're attacking anyway. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Ampharos as your front-line man; sure, Gigavolt is powerful and can be useful if it lands well, but it's not a fully reliant attack, and Ampharos only has so much HP. 140 to be exact. Maybe a Fighting Fury Belt would be ideal...

In any case, Ampharos is a pretty powerful in his own right, and if he were an EX himself, definitely would be an awesome pick to pair with M Ampharos-EX. Or heck, maybe there's a BREAK Evo in his future! We'll see where he goes.

Rating

Standard: 2.5/5 (not too shabby, in all honesty, but he isn't helped by his Stage 2 status or the coin flips)

Expanded: 2.5/5 (he's gonna be a bit slow, but he's got a good bit of value to make up for it)

Limited: 3.5/5 (gotta say, that's some stellar stuff)

Arora Notealus: Where does all that wool go anyway? Mareep's got it, Flaafy's got some, but then Ampharos has none. Then again, maybe it just goes to Mega Ampharos?

Next Time: Don't get greedy now.
