Dungeon Of Magic
Melbourne City Victoria, Australia
11:00 Saturday 30 October
17 Participants.

This was the first competition that i could find that i could
participate in. It was running a bit behind schedule, and because of
some wierd numbers was a round robin, rather than a knock out. I used
a deck that i created myself, that mainly uses poison, and no retreat
costs to knock out the defenders. My deck is a grass deck.

Flying Toxic Deck

4 x Venusaur
2 x Ivysaur
2 x Bulbasaur
2 x Nidoking
2 x Nidorino
2 x Nidoran(m)
1 x Pidgeot
2 x Pidgeotto
2 x Pidgey
2 x Venomoth
2 x Venonat
1 x Dragonair
2 x Dratini

18 x Grass Energy

2 x Pokemon Centre
2 x Gust of Wind
4 x Bill
2 x Pokemon Trader
2 x Pokemon Breeder
2 x Energy Retrieval
2 x Professor Oak

Pokemon: 26
Trainers: 16
Energy: 18
Total : 60

The competition got a shaky start, byt he organisers saying "no
jungle/fossil" but being outwayed by the participants, fossil an
djungle cards were allowed. A lucky escape for me.

Round 1: Rohan (Fire)

When i saw i was up against a fire deck, i thought that this might be
a short torny for me. But luck was with me, and i drew a nidoran(m)
as my basic, and wasn't resistant. I built up my nidoran(m) as he
sacrificed a growlithe evolved to arcanine to buy him some time. When
i evolved through to nidoking, his game was short lived, as i
poisoned his pokemon through. I finished with a nice touch, by energy
trans to venusaur, scooped up nidoran(m) and solarbeam a healthy
growlithe.

Win - Record 1-0

Round 2: ?? Water/Grass

This was quite a strong deck, and he managed to get a benched
blastiose very quickly. I was quite afraid of this, and hurricaned it
( with my pidgeot )  twice, to buy me some time. When he forgot to
evolve it on the third time, it was too late, and my fully powered up
venusaur ripped through his bench in a matter of turns.

Win - Record:  2-0

Round 3: Matt Grass

Fighting another grass i knew it would be a matter of who was
stronger. Luck was with me again, as i got a venonat and a venomoth
in my first hand. I paralised him on the first turn, and then
evolved, to create havoc with my venomoth. With each of his five
benched pokemon with hp under 60. I bought time with venomoth until i
had my charged venusaur. I let venusaur do the rest.

Win - Record: 3-0

Round 4: Howard, Haymaker

Howard was my friend who i came in with, and i knew that this would
be a short match, to him. Haymaker seemed to be the only types that i
lost to. I got a nidoran(m) and a venonat in my original hand, and
started to work with the nidoarn(m). Pity he had a jynx, and made
quick work of that. I used bills, and prof. oaks, to try to build a
respectable bench, but it was over in a couple of minutes, through
lack of pokemon!

Loss Record 3-1

Round 4: ?? staller deck

This guy had played howard before, and got howard down to four cards,
so i knew this wouldn't be easy. I ended up stalling him with
confused and poisons with venomoth, but he scooped up two nearly dead
chanseys, and slowed me down! I got out my venusaur luckily enough,
and with two cards left in my deck i destroyed my sixth pokemon. A
close win.

Win Record 4-1

The tourney ended with four people on four wins, but as i lost by the
greatest margin, i came in fourth. My friend Howard, came in third,
and two other haymakers won the tourney.

Props.
Traders, who gave me a charizard for a wigglytuff.
Players, for being very good, and good losers.

Slops,
The organisers, for only not giving pokemon, just cash ( and not much
of it! )
Me, for losing!

Well a good tourney overall, and there is another one in a couple of
weeks. Till Next time.
