I recently played a tournament at Best Comics in Great Neck, which is 3 miles
from my house. Most of the people that have read my previous reports know
that I hate unoriginal decks, like haymakers. I actually like haymakers, just
not the standard Hitmonchan Scyther Electabuzz deck. To prove that these guys
are not the best, I made my own haymaker. I call it "The Oddities".
Here's the deck:
3 Magmar (Basic)
3 Ponyta
3 Pinsir
3 Nidoran M
4 Staryu
9 Fire Energy
9 Grass Energy
7 Water Energy
3 Double Colorless Energy
3 Pluspower
1 Defender
2 Switch
3 Gust of Wind
3 Computer Search
2 Bill
2 Pokedex
I played a game over the net against my brother, who plays the standard
haymaker. Here's the match:
I started with Ponyta and Staryu, he started with Fossil Magmar and Scyther.
He puts out Scyther, I put out Ponyta, I end up Flame Tailing Him to death.
He puts in Magmar, no energy. I switch for Staryu, water energy and do 40. He
energys, flips tails, i do 40 for the win. (No basics)
The tournament had 12 people. It was double elimination for the first 2
matches, and then single for the last 3, where there were 6 people left.
Here's the tournament results:
Round 1:
I played a Raindance deck. He started Squirtle and Magikarp, I started
Nidoran and Magmar. Since he had a smirk on his face, I assumed that he had a
Blastoise and Breeder. I placed an energy on Nidoran, Gust of Winded out
Squirtle, and killed it in two turns. Turns out he had Blastoise but no
Breeder or Wartortle. He Bills, Pokedexes and Oaks a few times, but doesn't
get Gyarados. He flails, I kill. I win because he had no basics.
WIN 1-0
Round 2:
I played a haymaker. Joy ;-) He only gets a Scyther, while I get Magmar and
Pinsir. I go first and end up killing Scyther with Magmar. By now, he has a
pair of Electabuzz and 3 Hitmonchan on his bench. I stall with Magmar and
power up Pinsir. By the time Magmar is dead, so is an Electabuzz. Pinsir and
Staryu clean house for the win.
Win 2-0
Round 3:
Lucky me, I got a bye.
Win 3-0
Round 4:
A Wiggly-Speed deck. I start Staryu with Magmar and Nidoran on my bench. He
starts Fossil Magmar with a Jigglypuff on his bench. I use Staryu to kill
Magmar, but he gets a Wigglytuff going and kills Staryu. I stall with Nidoran
and use Magmar for the kill. The rest is just mopping up Jigglypuff, Scyther
and 2 Hitmonchan. Magmar rocks.
Win 4-0
Round 5:
This is it, the finals. I play a Raindance deck. I start with a lone Magmar,
while he gets 2 Squirtles and a Magikarp. He goes first, evolves to Blastoise
by Breeder, Raindance, Hydropump, I lose.
Loss 4-1
I had a pretty good tournament, considering that nobody really like these
cards. I won 2 basic packs, and got a Breeder and Nidoking. If you really
want to try a new deck, play people over the net. Try original decks, or cool
variations like mine. Haymaker and Raindance are so overused, its not funny.
If you like this deck, want to buy or trade cards, or just want to ask me a
question, e-mail me at AuSeNsTrAk@aol.com
Now its time for Props and Slops
Props..........
To Best Comics, for having good tournaments.
To all of you who use original decks.
To Pojo, for having the best pokemon web site there is.
Slops...........
To all of the Raindance and Haymaker decks out there. Be original.
