Somewhere, Out There

'Sup all! Well, you wanna know what I REALLY
felt like doing after the WotC news? GO TO A TOURNAMENT! Luckily, this
place has loads of luxuries for the Pokemon tcg player, playing-wise
anyways. Well, hear is the deck I used: A signature of my old days
playing in a lot of unlimited, although it still is a personal favorite.
So without further ado, the decklist:
4 Pluspower
4 Gust of Wind
3 Professor Oak
3 Focus Band
3 Gold Berry
2 Prof. Oak's Research
2 Computer Search
Energy (20):
4 Rainbow
4 Lightning
3 Dark
3 Metal
3 Double Colorless
3 Grass
Now, before you start saying, "What in the world?! Who plays THAT?!" you
must understand that I have always had a joy to play powerful decks that
are unique in certain aspects. Certain, "Crap" like Scizor is one such
card. Well anyways, here's how the tourny went:
Round 1: Vs Derrick (Donphan)
This game was interesting, but took a while. My pokes included Steelix
and Sneasel in important KO's throughout the game. In the end, I won my
first round of the tournament (1-0)
Round 2: Vs Robert (Sneasel/Slowking)
This game was challenging at points, but we both acknowledged that he
had a problem of either not drawing the right card at the right time, or
the wrong card at the wrong time. However, he made many important
decisions that helped him throughout the match. He was also another
great player, but in the end, I managed to defeat him (2-0)
Round 3: Vs Robby (Dark Downpour)
I must admit that at first, I was totally CONFUSED by this kid's deck.
Sneasel/Feraligatr?! Wha?! As I began to realize that the deck could
actually work, I managed to take pride in facing another rogue deck,
especially considering that he was a younger player. However, a couple
nervous moves jinxed his game (For example, retreating for a croconaw
while I had a fully-powered Rocket's Scyther). While he did manage to
pull some powerful KO's with cards like Sneasel, the game ended in my
favor (3-0)
Round 4: Vs Taylor (Beatdown)
While my opponent seemed very well-seasoned in the Pokemon TCG, this
game was such an easy breeze...for him, at least :p
Seriously, you would have had to have been there. He draws such an
awesome hand...I draw crap. While I did have a cleffa, a FTKO on a
sneasel via ditto kinda hurt my chances. worse, I didn't draw an energy
to attach to cleffa o_O
I was getting beaten down for a while, until I got my own sneasel out
into action. While I tried hard to hold 'em back, he managed to avoid
decking out and KO'd a severely damaged Rocket's Zapdos. Oh well. Being
the humbled good sport I am ^_-, it was still a gg (3-1)
T4 Single Elimination
Round 5: Vs Ryan (Slowking)
Curse that stupid Slowking! Don't worry, I'm merely joking! :)
This game kinda reminded me of the Taylor match, only funnier to look
at. I sware, just 2 Slowkings screwed the match over, and BIG time.
I play Oak...
DENIED!
I play Gust...
DENIED!
I play Research...
GRANTED!
I play Computer search...
DENIED!
Man, oh man. Now I understand why it was banned in modified. Just NOT a
fun card. While I realized why I gave up unlimited tournaments, that had
to have been my funniest game in a while (3-2)
Aftermath: Well, in the finals game, Taylor barely won in what obviously
seemed to have been one of their best games. When it came to decking, it
seemed that Ryan's Slowking was his own undoing. Oh well, as we all
lose, which is a better lesson than winning (Oh great! There's good ole
Patriarch, covering up the fact that he's a L-O-S-E-R!). To be serious,
I had a great time at this tournament! While a couple YGO-Pokemon trade
regulations set up are unfair, it's more than worth it, as this is an
ideal place for the Pokemon TCG, with some 2-3 DCI tournaments EVERY
WEEK!
Props:
The owner, Mr. Chris
The Master Professors running the event
The players, of course!
Slops:
Jordan (another guy there) not bringing his, "supposed" complete set of
YGO Metal Raiders. Then again, what about the time he said he owned four
black lotus? Hmmmm, methinks there's some trickery in his talk!
