Well on Sunday there was a SBZ at this place, me
and a few buddies drove an hour and a half in the barely plowed highways
to get to this place. Let me just say, half of the people that showed
up for the tourney didn’t even know what Modified format was, so a few
people got screwed when they split the prizes between modified and
unlimited tournaments. It was a true waste of gas money, to say the
least. Basically it was the locals from where I usually play. Ok, now
for the deck that got me third place for SBZ.

There were 5 rounds of single game swiss, and then
the top four faced off.
Round one vs. Toni (Ex Vileplume)
This game was very interesting. I
started off with two pichu, a golbat, 2 crobat, 2 grass. I was worried
for quite some time because zubat were far more difficult to find than
what they should be. Toni took the first prize after knocking out a
pichu, and finally I got a zubat the next draw. After stallin with the
other pichu, I finally got crobat energized and evolved, ready to
cross. He had a fully powered plume by then, with 10 damage, thus I
would require 4 heads to knock it out. And somehow or another, I
actually threw all four heads. After his next turn, he had an oddish
and a cleffa out. I played a murkrow and a dark, and once again I threw
all four heads (that’d be the last time that’d happen). After he
eeeeeeek’d it up, I attached an energy to murkrow and knocked out his
cleffa.
(1-0)
Round two vs. Vince (jumpluff/kingdra)
Well I knew better than to think
that this would be an easy game for either of us. I can’t remember
exactly what I started off with, but I remember that I had a cleffa and
a murkrow, and he quickly evolved his jumpluff and then attached a
rainbow (so he could use his pokebody). Luckily I pulled a dark and
knocked out his jumpluff with murkrow. Soon he knocked out my krow with
another jumpluff. And as time was being called I got one shot to knock
out his pluff, with 4 heads. Unfortunately I threw 3 heads, and was
forced to settle for a tie.
1-0-1
Round three vs. Matt (Aq scizor)
I thought I’d have the advantage
since I wouldn’t have to worry about resistance. Well, once again, I
was WRONG! We draw for basics, he has one, I have a GOD-HAND, except,
for the fact I had no Basics. So I draw again, and I get one basic………
Smeargle! I knew this wasn’t going to be fun, and I was right. Matt’s
only basic, TYROGUE, figures doesn’t it? Well he knocked me out on the
first turn. And we were both in agreement that I had most likely done
something in a past life to deserve that kind of loss. Instead of
drawing a zubat, where I would be laughing at tyrogue, I draw the only
tech card in my deck!
1-1-1
Round four vs. Tyler (steelix/donphan)
Mr. Crobat is none too happy to see
steelix, so I wasn’t too sure about this, but luckily I had 2 zubat on
the first draw and a crobat, while Tyler only had a corsala and a phanpy.
First draw, I pull a golbat, and I quickly evolved and powered up crobat
for the easy KO.
2-1-1
Round five vs. little Andrew (car-phlosion deck)
Well I needed this game to
guarantee my place in the top four, and it figures that I’d have to face
a cargo-typhlosion deck. Well I started off with just a zubat, two
murkrow and the smeargle, needless to say, I wasn’t happy because I had
nothing to go with these cards (no dark, no grass, nothing….). Well
Andrew ends up with two elekid, a tyrogue, and a cleffa, and he soon got
out a slugma and a quil. After getting torn up by elekid, I finally get
out a crobat and a pichu, and go on the offensive. Unfortunately, he
got out cargo and he downsized my offensive by killing crobat and my
pichu after one ZAP. I was rather worried at the time, but my next draw
was my other pichu, and I knocked out his cargo and two elekids in one
hit. I was up on prizes (I had one left and he had 3), and I poison his
cleffa (big whoop huh?). Now I have a murkrow with a grass on my bench,
and I’m looking for a dark to end this match. He made one mistake in
this match, and that was to bring up a non baby, and after he said go, I
drew a Dark on the first try and I knocked out his cleffa.
3-1-1
Final four vs. Big Andrew (entei-cargo)
Well this game was rather short,
couldn’t draw a single zubat. I used my oak’s research, which gave me
the worst hand possible (TWO GOLBAT, TWO CROBAT, AND A DARK). Well
after he got out cargo, my two babies weren’t even a problem.
-Out of Tourney
Well in the end, the Big Andrew took second, Vince
took first, and Chad and myself tied for Third!
Props definitely go to all the players there that I
played, and didn’t play…… and to Vince who played a great original deck
and was victorious in the end.
And slops go to the store for not controlling the
SBZ and screwing us out of prizes and Big Andrew for playing one of my
most hated decks (Entei-Cargo).
