Meganium
again. Seems like nothing changed. =\
Here's the deck:
Pokémon 20
4 Chikorita
2 Bayleef
4 Meganium
3 Cleffa
2 Ledyba (Destiny)
2 Ledian (Skyridge)
1 Pichu
1 Scyther
1 Tyrogue
Trainers 28
4 Elm
4 Trader
3 Copycat
3 Double Gust
3 Breeder
3 Focus
2 Gold Berry
2 Bill's Maintenance
1 Town Volunteers
1 Energy Stadium
1 Strength Charm
1 Switch
E nergy 12
12 Grass
I changed one card from the last version. Unown M to Pichu. Basically
because I thought -
1. Nobody would be playing Steelix.
2. Unown M doesn't do much to Scizor, and most Scizor decks play Muk (SMF)
So, this is what I used. Ledyba/Ledian for Scizor protection, Meganium
for swarming, etc. On to the report.
Well, got there around 10:45. I took someone with,
CHARIZARDMASTERTRAINER from Wizpog. Saw a few people I knew from other
tourneys, traded for the other Ledian I needed, traded for some other
cards, etc. Got a Skyridge Beedrill for an upcoming TMP tourney, and
that was about it. I played a practice game with Jimmy (BANGINBOX), but
I couldn't get set up, AND he was using SK Flareon. =/ He was using some
crazy AQ Jumpluff/SK Flareon/SK Vaporeon deck. It seemed to work,
though. I started to play Vince (Im a living legend), but then the
pairings were up and we started Round 1...
Round 1 - Me vs. Random Water/Fire deck
Yeah, I always seem to face some random kid first round. The second I
saw Promo Articuno, I knew this would be easy... and it was. I wiped him
out with Promo Scyther, then cleaned up with Ledian and Meganium. Not
too much to this match...
1-0-0
Round 2 - Me vs. Noc Lock (James Vernola)
He was bragging at the beginning of the match about how he would win,
but I knew he didn't have a chance. Noc Lock < Meganium. The 2 Energy
cost just eats Espeon for breakfast.... and it did in our match. I
ripped him up, and got 2 Meganium and a Ledian ready to attack. He tried
to stall me for the 2 point win at the end (Don't you hate when people
do that?), but I got his Tyrogue and ended the game.
2-0-0
Lunch break. They were selling pizza. =\
Round 3 - Me vs. Entei/Cargo (Jeffrey Vernola)
I knew he had Cargo, but I wasn't really afraid. I was willing to accept
a loss. It started off with him having a Magby. Only a Magby. Get where
I 'm going with this? I had a Tyrogue. I went first. (Do you need to
read anymore?) I had to make a decision whether to try to Rogue him, or
to build up Meganium. I chose to try to Rogue him. Smash Punch. Heads.
Heads. O_O Those of you who know me, you know that Heads just don't come
along that often for me. =\ That was that game. He was OBVIOUSLY mad,
getting Rogued and all against a Grass deck that he would easily
destroy... It was sorta ironic, though. At the Windy City Championship,
Jeffrey's brother, Adam, played this exact deck against me, and won. I
got revenge. =P
3-0-0 (We did play another match afterwards, though. I won that, too
somehow. )
Round 4 - Me vs. Gatr/Sect (Alex Brosseau [BigChuck01])
I obviously had the advantage going into this, but he had a trick for my
deck. EX Gatr. Too bad it was in his prizes... ;x Yeah, so a good old
Gatr vs. Meganium match. I got 2 Meganium going, and he had Suicune
blocking my Double Gust options. I eventually KO'd Suicune, and his Gatr
was ready for me. He got enough Energy to KO my Solarbeam Meganium, and
of course Parasect, so I was a little worried about that. I sent up the
other Meganium and he got Heads for Sleep. He used Riptide... I got
Heads for Focus. =D! So, after his Gatr got knocked out, he sent up
Totodile, considering I had 10 HP left. He got 3 Tails for Fury Swipes.
=\ So, it was basically over from there. GOOD GAME!
4-0-0
Round 5 - Me vs. Politoed/Poliwrath/Electabuzz (ST Pika)
I knew I had the advantage going into this. He started off on a high
note. He had a Tyrogue and Poliwag, while I had Tyrogue and Chikorita.
He Rogued my Rogue. :/ That gave him the option of going to Electabuzz,
which would prove to be his only offense in the whole game. I couldn't
get anything going early, and he KO'd my Bayleef. Eventually I got a
Meganium (Solarbeam) going via Breeder, and I took down both his
Electabuzz. There was really nothing he could do after that... the Water
Resistance ate him alive. It was a good game, but I took it over after
his Electabuzz went down. Whew.
5-0-0
Round 6 - Me vs. Typhlosion/Exeggutor (Jen [TR Cassidy])
Knowing I would make T8 no matter what, I knew I'd draw. =\ So, that's
what we did. We played a practice match afterwards, and surprisingly, I
won. :/ I was unstoppable. :P I got a Turn 2 Meganium or something, and
=\. She got an Entei (Revelation) going, but I KO'd it eventually. Game.
T8 time.
5-1-0
Well, I obviously took the first seed. I think it went like this (Didn't
really pay attention =\):
1. Me (Meganium)
2. Alex Brosseau (Gatr/Sect)
3. Jeffrey Vernola (Entei/Cargo)
4. Vince (SMF)
5. Jen (Typhlosion/Eggs)
6. Austin Something (Forgot ;x)
7. ST Pika (Politoed/Poliwrath/Electabuzz)
8. James Vernola (Noc Lock)
Round 1 - Me vs. Noc Lock (James Vernola)
I knew I had the advantage again going into this match. He was sorta
scared, too. I could tell by my opening hand that this wouldn't be fun.
At all. I started with Chikorita and 1 Energy, but no Trainers that I
could use. You know, Town Volunteers, Switch, etc. Stuff like that.
That's how my hand was the _whole_ game. I got an energy like 10 turns
later, but by then he had a 3 Dark Umbreon going, so =/. Craptacular.
Yep, 2 Energy the whole game. Just another tourney for me to get screwed
at. What a deal. =/ The one deck I beat practically EVERY TIME, I lose
to... -_-; I wasn't too thrilled about this, but I kept my temper under
control.... :/ At least I had fun.
I saw Vince play against James in T4, and, ironically, Vince got a
crappy start. WHO DOES THAT REMIND YOU OF? =/ His offense was a Scyther
with a Rainbow and a Sentret. WOW. I now hate that kid forever. I'm
pretty sure that Alex won, consideri ng his easy lineup (I didn't stay
until the end for obvious reasons. =\). First he had to face Politoed,
then Entei/Cargo, and Noc Lock in the Finals. Gatr/Sect simply reams all
of those. I was the only one to beat him. =P
The Top 4 went like this:
Alex (Gatr/Sect) vs. Jeffrey Vernola (Entei/Cargo)
Vince (SMF) vs. James Vernola (Noc Lock)
Anyway, time for the props and slops, which I'm terrible at.
Props:
-Me dominating in Swiss, and for proving that my deck still works. ;x
-Vince for getting back into T8 after getting screwed in the first
round.
-Actually getting a prize, even if it was only 6 packs. =/
-So many competitive, creative rogue decks being played -- It's what
makes this game fun.
-Actually getting a FTKO. ;x
-The judges making fun of Alex all day. XD (I think you need two
chairs...)
-You guys, for reading this.
Slops:
-James Vernola getting so lucky in T8 and T4.
-Me and Vince getting screwed. Especially me, since I dominated Swiss.
;x
-Alex winning ANOTHER tournament.
-James Vernola getting Rogued by me. ;x
-SoSlowpoke for miscounting my deck before the tournament. =\
Anyway, it was fun overall. I'm cursed at tourneys, though. ;/ Thanks
for reading, if you did.
