Heya, I'm writing another review of 2 stage Fighting Pokemon that are cool
to use in casual play and I happen to personally like. I did
Mankey-Primeape, plan on doing a Snadshrew-Sandslash, and am currently doing
Rhyhorn-Rhydon. OK, first up is Ryhorn.
Ryhorn 70 HPs for a basic is pretty nice especially if you aren't rich or
lucky enough to make a deck of all rares. It will keep him alive for a while
especially vs Electric cause of his resistance but you are in trouble vs a
Grass type cause of his weakness. Retreat cost of 3 is pretty nasty.
Actually that is really nasty, unless you have a Switch expect this guy to
go down swinging. Now on to Rhyhorn's attacks. For one Colorless Energy he
obtains Leer. Leer gives you a 50/50 chance of keeping your opponent from
attacking on his next turn. Not too shabby if you are stalling to get him
powered up. Benching either pokemon prevents Leer from working so it is not
a reliable attack but if you have to open with him it is better than
nothing. His second attack is a decent one. Horn Attack does 30 damage for
FCC. This is where a DCE could come in very handy for a 2nd turn 30, if you
are into that kinda thing. Which it appears many people are. Rhyhorn is a
pretty straightforward Pokemon capable of taking a decent amount of damage
and and stalling to protect himself while while he powers up a nice 30
damage.
Now onto his evolution. Rhydon is an exact copy of Rhyhorn only with a few
added perks.Retreat, Weakness and Resistance stay the same. He gains 30 more
HPs taking him up to a very healthy 100HPs for a Stage One. He maintains The
same Horn Attack for FCC of 30. Again the DCE is sweet here. Now he has a
new attack Ram. I'm not too sure about the viability of Ram. It does 50
damage for FFFF, which sucks if you were using DCE to do Horn Attack, but
will be nice if you evo and energied while he was benched so he comes up
fresh. A fresh Rhydon can cause some trouble with Ram. Undamaged is the best
way to pop up cause he does 20 damage to himself for every Ram attack, which
blows if the opponent has a resistance, but can be useful. Ram also forces
you opponent to switch his active with a benched of his choice. He will
often choose one with free retreat or a suitable opponent to Rhydon. Ram can
be very useful depending on the bench. Wouldn't you like to Ram down a nasty
Scyther that could be real big trouble and Ram up an unpowered Snorlax(or
other unpowered high-retreat lone benchwarmers) to Horn at your leisure.
Yes, this is an exaggerated situation and in many many cases Ram will do you
more harm than good, if you dont want to use it horn attack is a decent
cover. A Defender can prevent all damage to yourself also. Due to high
retreat cost and self-damaging attacks my Rhydons usually go down swinging.
OK, These guys are fun cards to use, Rhyhorn is good by himself but the
Rhydon evo can be a big help. They are not too hard to come across and can
really be useful with a DCE. I think Rhyhorn looks way cooler. Not a tourny
card but still very usefull due to high HP and decent 2 turn damage. Feel
free to e-mail me your opinions. Rollins-X justinbrollins@hotmail.com
