Jumpluff decks have one MAJOR thing going for them....it's pretty darn hard to
kill the bugger. With a focus on it, there's a 50% chance you take 0 damage and
a 75% chance you stay alive. The major downside is the inability to do huge
damage, so it becomes a battle of who can stay alive longer.
To be a top contender, your deck MUST be able to beat or at least have a chance
against EnCargo, Gatr and Scizor. Those are archetypes for a reason: people play
them. If you can't beat them, odds are you're going to run into trouble.
For Cargo, you have a few options. Your first is Mantine. 40 Damage is an OHKO.
Your next is Starmie. Boost Energy means that given 2 turns, you can do a solid
60 to any pokemon, meaning Skiploom can easily KO it the following turn. Your
last option is Jumpluff. JUMPLUFF? It's weak to Magcargo! Truth, but you forget
that Magcargo is only doing damage 50% of the time. The other 50%, weakness
means crud. With a Focus Band, the odds are in your favor that over 3 turns,
with you going 1/2 on your flips, you'll ko the fire poke before it ko's you.
For Scizor, you have Starmie. Very, very simple. Given ANY 2 turns, one to play
the Staryu and one to evolve and attach Boost, you can use Core Blast. Use Core
Blast on Scizor with 4 metals? 70 damage. Solid. Use Core Blast on Scizor with 4
metals and a Rainbow? KO. Also, if Muk is out, remember to use Skiploom and
poison, as Muk shuts off that nice pokebody of its.
Gatr is dead against this. Let's see.....EX Gatr does either guaranteed 10 or
possible 40....Riptide Gatr has to have 10 waters in the discard, get by Fluff
AND get by Focus for a ko, not to mention it's weak to Grass =\ Feel free to
attach a Grass Energy and only take 10 damage against EX Gatr, instead of a
rainbow and maybe taking 40.
The major, major, major enemy of this deck is Beedrill. Beedrill's power shuts
off Jumpluff's power for at least a turn, which means you're stuck with a low-HP
stage 2 that's poisoned and about to take major damage from Beedrill. The good
news is that Beedrill's flippy attack can backfire; the bad news is that since
you're going to take 30 poison damage and probably have 10 damage on their
before, they only need to go 1/2 on flips to ko you. Remember to swarm....
Starmie is basically major TeCH in this deck. It covers Fire well, with a solid
3 for 50 attack. Core Blast is also solid to use against Scizor. Remember, 5
special energies on scizor = OHKO. Mantine is just plain TeCH. Late game, 40
damage is always solid to have for a turn, and early game, it pwnz big fire.
Jumpluff can stand up to ANY deck, merely because of the fact that it is hard to
hit, hard to ko and easy to swarm. A baby rule on it is SOLID, the attack is =\
but doable, and the focus band + Fluff combo means you have staying power.
Having 3 of them up turn 3 means your opponent is in SERIOUS trouble. Merely by
virtue of the fact that it is ridiculously hard to knock out, it is a force in
the game. For mirror matches, go first and knock out whatever you can quickly.
Otherwise, it just gets really long, really fast. Ask RaNd0m: I conceded, down
6-5, after an hour. =\
Good luck!
