What's up, you guys?! Time for Day 2 of Promo Week. Today, we have...

Blackmane Witch
Power: 6000
Grade 1
Clan: Gold Paladin
Race: Elf
AUTO: [Choose another of your «Gold Paladin» rear-guards, and retire it] When this unit is placed on Vanguard Circle or Rear-guard Circle, if you have a «Gold Paladin» vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, look at the top card of your deck, search for up to one «Gold Paladin» from among them, call it to an open Rear-guard Circle, and put the rest on the bottom of your deck.

An elf as a witch...huh...anyway, Blackmane Witch is a pretty interesting card as it basically lets you retire something to call the top card if your deck. However, 9 times out of 10, you're using this skill during your Main Phase, so it relieves a lot of potential pressure game that her soon-to-be-out brother, Kahedin, can do better. Another thing that Kahedin does better is that he is stronger in power, and that extra 1,000 power can sometimes turn the tide of the game.

Overall, Blackmane Witch is an okay card, but nothing past it.

Rating: 3/5
Art: A black armored witch...how Spectral of her. xP

Ever have one of those moments where you use up some precious counterblast to activate your Blonde Ezel limit break, and the card you flip off the top of your deck is A BLOODY TRIGGER UNIT? I have. Many, many times. It is one of the trade-offs of the Gold Paladin deck; sometimes you will get a good card, sometimes you will get a trigger. The trick is to not bank on a high power, but have a position open for a lower power unit too.

But when you do get a trigger, don’t lose hope, because today’s card can give you a second chance to get something good, and all she asks is that you eat the card you just called. When she hits the board, either as the vanguard or a rear guard, you can retire another Gold Paladin, and call the top card of your deck. Blackmane Witch is a medium-standard grade one, at 6k power, but when boosting a Beaumains or a Gigantech Destroyer, that’s okay. The situation I described above happens occasionally, and having a Blackmane available to cycle the top card again is nice, but, of course, requires you to have Blackmane in your hand already. Outside of the Spectral Duke ride chain, I am not a fan of the “retiring a rear guard to get another rear guard” gimmick. The ride chain works well because you eat one, but get two back, so you are up one rear guard just like you would be in any other build of Gold Paladin. That plus one is what makes Gold Paladin good. The plus one will be a trigger, occasionally. It is unavoidable, and that is where trading it off again with Blackmane can be good: eating the free card instead of something else. When you don’t call a trigger, Blackmane then just has to sit in your hand, or get called as a vanilla booster.

Rating: 2/5 – Situational, but a decent follow-up to something that WILL happen in a Gold Paladin deck.

Hello fighters! It’s been a while! ^^

We’re on the 2nd card of the week, and we have on the list is the sexy Black Mane Witch!
Looking at the art, the witch has a really nice pose, matching her cool Black Horse armor. Pretty cool for a mage in the Black Horse ranks.

When I first saw this card, I told myself, “This is perfect for SDD”. There was now a solution for the not so good superior calls of the vortimer ride chain should you be unlucky. This girl can clean and adjust your field and give another shot of superior calling a better unit.

It can be used with vortimer, lop ear, spring breeze, nimue, viviane, ezel and even the famed garmore. It’s just trading one for one if you’re going to look at it, but hey, it can somehow thin out the deck, and even call pellinore if ever you’re lucky!

Not much of this card is seen in the competitive scene, mainly because of her attack power of 6000, (in which you can just place other cards like sleygal dagger, dindrane or nimue) and also the fact that it’s a random superior call. Still, for the risk takers out there, or for those who want to use this card, don’t get discouraged and enjoy the continuous calling! =)

On to the rating!

Art: 4.0 (it reeks coolness for a witch, and sexy to boot!)

Competitiveness: 3.0 (there are better superior call units available)

Fun Factor: 4.0 (it’s fun to call!)
