Hoop Master

Date Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2016

[CONT]:Sentinel [AUTO]:[Choose a card from your hand, and discard it] When this unit is placed on (GC) from hand, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose up to one of your vanguards that is being attacked, and that unit cannot be hit until end of that battle. Magia-[AUTO] Generation Break 1:[Counter Blast (1)] When this unit is placed on (GC), if you have a card named "Hoop Master" in your drop zone, you may pay the cost. If you do, Soul Charge (1), choose up to one card from your soul, call it to a front row (RC), and until end of turn, that unit gets [Shield]+5000 and "Intercept", and at the end of that turn, put the unit called with this effect into your soul.

Pale Moon's alternative Perfect Guard. Has the usual Perfect Guard jazz, but has a neat trick: when used to guard with while another Hoop Master is in the drop zone, CB1 to Soulcharge 1, then call a unit from the soul to front row and grant it 5k and the ability to intercept.

It's actually pretty nice. Magia decks of course don't keep a front row and for CB1 it's a nice way to use any triggers in the soul that got there by accident, not to mention it's at pretty much no hard advantage minus to yourself. Just wish the only other real Countercharger wasn't the other Perfect Guard, but for what it's worth, at least it isn't spending resources just so it can Swiss-Army as a booster. Don't really like those.

Compared to the Countercharging PG, which one do I prefer? Probably this one, actually. Harri can get your board up for only 1 CB at a time and not needing excessive guard from the hand is a worthwhile  way to spend Counterblast, since it's actually being used for something decent unlike old-age Murakumo.

Even without the Magia ability, being a PG is still golden.

Because Pale Moon doesn't have enough Perfect Guards, right?

Okay, that was a joke, this is actually really good.  It'll nullify any attack like normal, but at GB1 it does stupid things, provided you have a unit with the same name in your drop zone.

So, hey, you probably soul charged a trigger or have your forerunner in your soul in Pale Moon, so, why not call it to the front rear guard and have a 15K interceptor?

I like this, a lot, gives some good defensive options in a game that really needs them and can help deal with some annoying stuff like Silent Tom.  Hi, Silent Tom!  Go away now.

...What?  I can be annoyed when that thing only shows up when I'm at five damage and have nothing but grade 0s in my hand, can't I?
