Stealth Dragon, Dreadmaster

- #BT01/069EN

Reviewed: Sept. 7, 2017

[Counter Blast (1)] When an attack hits during the battle that this unit boosted a «Nubatama», if the number of cards in your hand is less than your opponent's, you may pay the cost. If you do, your opponent chooses a card from his or her hand, and discards it.

Based Afterimage loves this card, but I don't think this is necessary in Dominate. This is a strict -1 to the opponent in the event the attack hits, but then again, since the opponent chooses their source of a minus, you can achieve slightly higher quality minuses simply through Dominate, and cheaper than Dreadmaster's CB1 for one hit. An on-boost or on-hit rear-guard that can generate another attack like Midnight Bunny (to cite a very old example) could truthfully do the same job, so it wasn't actually overcosted even back then.

Nonetheless, an excellent card that aged very well.

I could have saved this for GB12, what with it being reprinted and all, but i felt it best to tackle it here what with Nubatama being hype and all. Dreadmaster was THE card that made Nubatama scary, even when they got support in set 13 for the first real time. Dreadmaster made any column with it dangerous to let through, as you were losing cards whether you guarded or not.

Nowadays, however, Dreadmaster has to compete for counterblast space with other heavy hitters like Tsukumorakan, Mujinlord, or Rokushikirakan. Not to mention needing to recoup with Genkai. He's still good, but only if you're playing a very aggressive game and don't mind burning CB on the effect.
