Name: Magmar (Basic) Type: Basic Pokemon Card #: card 36 of 102 Rarity: Uncommon Color: Fire HP: 50 HP Weakness: W Resistance: none Retreat: 2 Species: Spitfire Level: 24 Pokemon #: 126 Attack: [RR] Fire Punch (30) Attack: [1RR] Flamethrower (50) Discard R to use. Pokemon No.: 126 Type: Fire Evolution: Basic Name: Magmar (Fossil) Level: 31 HP: 70 Weakness: Water Resistance: None Retreat Cost: 1 Attacks: [R] Smokescreen (10) If the Defending Pokemon tries to attack during your opponent's next turn, your opponent flips a coin. If tails, Defender's attack does nothing. [RR] Smog (20) Flip coin. If heads, defender is Poisoned. History: Jynx is traded in the Pokemon game; you can't catch it in the wild. Jynx shows up in the special Christmas episode. Magmar is Blaine's trademark Pokemon. You can only catch it in the Blue version of the game. Ash's Charizard duked against it for Ash's second last badge. Strategy: These aren't "quick hitters" like Electabuzz or Hitmonchan, but they're "big hitters" (relatively speaking). Jynx's Meditate can be nasty, and so can Flamethrower. Both are basic too so it's quite good. Plus they're both uncommon! Jynx can be put out in front, but Magmar is better off in the bench where it can build up (though Fire Punch can be activated quite quickly) because of its HP. I prefer Magmar in Fossil to the Magmar in Basic because of its quick startup (R for 10) and its ability to Poison, a rarity in Fire. Strengths: -Good attacks -High HP for basic -Uncommon! Weaknesses: All: -Both can't be evolved into a stronger form Jynx: -Jynx can't punch through Psychic resistant characters, especially with no damage counters. -Jynx's Meditate is hard to harness after you beat one guy with it. Magmar (Basic): -Magmar's HP is too low and retreat cost too high Magmar (Fossil): -No real Beatdown attacks. When high HP squares off against high HP, beatdown is usually the way to win. Combos: -Jynx + Gengar: Move a counter, Meditate for more. Ratings: Jynx: Jonathan Ng: 7.0 Magmar (Basic): Jonathan Ng: 7.0 Magmar (Fossil): Jonathan Ng: 8.0
