Hello again. More CotW time: Time for Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam! (Poof!) Anywayz... Let's get to the critical stats: Name: Abra Type: Basic Pokemon Card #: card 43 of 102 Rarity: Common Color: Psychic HP: 30 HP Weakness: P Resistance: none Retreat: none Species: Psi Level: 10 Pokemon #: 63 Attack: [P] Psyshock (10) Flip coin. If heads, defender is now Paralyzed. Name: Kadabra Type: Stage 1 -- from Abra Card #: card 32 of 102 Rarity: Uncommon Color: Psychic HP: 60 HP Weakness: P Resistance: none Retreat: 3 Species: Psi Level: 38 Pokemon #: 64 Attack: [PP] Recover () Discard P to use. Remove all damage counters from Kadabra. Attack: [1PP] Super Psy (50) Name: Alakazam Type: Stage 2 -- from Kadabra Card #: card 1 of 102 Rarity: Rare - Holo Color: Psychic HP: 80 HP Weakness: P Resistance: none Retreat: 3 Species: Psi Level: 42 Pokemon #: 65 Power: "Damage Swap" As often as you like during your turn (before your attack), you may move 1 dam. counter from one of your Pokemon to another as long as you don't KO that Pokemon. This power can't be used if Alakazam is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. Attack: [PPP] Confuse Ray (30) Flip coin. If heads, defender is now Confused.. History: In the cartoon, Sabrina, the Saffron Gym Leader, owns an Abra, which evolves into Kadabra. In the game, you can catch it in the wild. Strategy: A nice way to round out, huh? Let's talk about them: Abra: I think Abra is bad. Some of my raters don't think so, however. I don't know... maybe I'm allergic to 30 HPs. I mean, Leek Slap, Horn Attack, Ember... It's a dangerous world out there. But Psyshock does help a lot. Paralyze is very annoying sometimes (as The Clam/Lodi points out) Oh, 0 retreat helps (thanks Elliot493!) Kadabra: Kadabra. Recover is very useful (Cure at most 50 damage for a turn and 2 Psy), and Super Psy is 50 damage (Lodi thinks, and I agree, that it's slow in the time of Haymaker) Hitmonchan one-timers are always good :-) Alakazam: Damage Swap is really cool. It uses every one of your Pokemon as a damage soaker. Unless you can knock out a Pokemon in one hit, damage swap will move it away. So you essentially have your whole Pokemon's Team's HP behind you! Confuse Ray isn't bad either, 30 damage for PPP + chance for confusion. However, it can't break through the "resistance barrier", as I call it... resistance is very hard on Psychics. Sigh. Lodi also reminds me that self-damaging Pokemon have a plus with Alakazam, because they can move the damage counters away. Strengths: -Kadabra has a 50 Damage Move -Damage Swap is one of the best Pokemon Powers in the game, and can be used on the bench. Weaknesses: -Abra is extremely weak (not as bad as Magikarp, but bad) -Alakazam isn't that good as a fighter, esp. against resistance. Combos: Alakazam + Chansey + Scoop Up or Pokemon Center - Move damage around then prevent it! Alakazam + Revive + Basic Pokemon in the Discard Pile - Your Pokemon is ready for Battle!
