Laguna, Lightning Enforcer

Hmm... meh. His ability is great, but he's a weak 5 drop with only 2500 power. This, unfortunately, will mean that you will probably only get to attack once with Laguna before getting mowed down. It will, however, get you at least that one spell (note: not a creature) from your deck. So you're basically paying 5 to search your deck for a non-creature spell the next turn as Laguna itself is most likely on a suicide mission. I just don't see it as worth the high cost of this guy.

In limited, I'd consider him even less appealing. Skip it.

Limited: 1.5

Hydromorph Laguna, Lightning Enforcer

Laguna has a pretty powerful effect off attacking. But when you have that much mana, you could probably be playing much better things. While Light has amazing potential with the spells they have, you can’t waste one turn summoning this, another turn swinging and searching, and the last actually playing the trump card, that’s three turns. I’d rather play Phal Eega, or Rayla for that matter. Not that good.

In draft, it’s variable. On one hand, you’ll surely have quite a few pinpoint spells that you’d love to fetch up. While the power level of the spells you actually draft will probably go down, it still fetches a card, so it’s not utterly horrible.

Constructed - 2/5

Limited - 3/5

Otaku

Name: Laguna, Lighting Enforcer

Type: Creature

Civilization: Light

Race: Berserker

Cost: 5

Power: 2500

Effect#1: Whenever this creature attacks, search your deck.  You may take a spell card from your deck, show that spell to your opponent, and put it into your hand.  Then shuffle your deck.

Flavor Text: The oracles sent the Enforcers to see how badly the cataclysm damaged the planet.

Mana#: 1

Set: Evo-Crushinators of Doom

Card#: 4/55

Rarity: Rare

Attributes: Laguna is a Light creature, a berserker.  Right now, I am simply amazed that my spell checker recognizes Laguna.  Currently there are no effects that reference “Berserkers”, so that is not of importance.  Light hasn’t really broken out in the decks I’ve seen.  It costs 5 mana to summon, but only has power 2500.  I’ve already seen the other elements give birth to some fearsome decks, but not Light.  Light does have some nifty spell cards though…

Abilities: …and that’s where this card might see some play.  Its effect lets you grab a spell card from your deck when you attack with it.  Not bad.  Not great. Since it’s when you attack, you get to re-use it for as long as this weak thing survives, but also means that the spells do you no good until the next turn.  So unless you use Diamond Cutter so Laguna can attack right away, we are talking two turns to hopefully grab a spell card.

Uses/Combinations: In a combo heavy deck, where the combos require spells, and using Light already, then consider this.

Ratings

Newbie Format: 3/5-Here, a single spell can change the game with ease.  I mean, it’s not uncommon for someone to build a small army of creatures up.  With this, you could nab a Holy Awe so that next turn you could blitz your opponent unopposed.

Tournament: 1.5/5If your combo is too hard to set-up, don’t use it.

Limited: 2.5/5-If you get a solid spell that you can use with this, then it could be worth it.

Summary

Unless you have to run Light and can’t run Water, why not use Crystal Memory.

Stegyman Laguna, Lightning Enforcer

Man, Duel Masters has some great artists.

Laguna: Light Creature, 5-Mana, 2500 Attack. Bleh. BUT! when this card attacks you can search your deck for a Spell card and put it into your hand. Interesting.

I would only use Laguna to search for a Diamond Cutter or a Holy Awe and use that Spell next turn. That's really all it's good for besides getting to look through your deck. It's a nice Creature that searches for stuff, and at 5-Mana you would easily be able to cast that Diamond Cutter or Holy Awe.

Pros: chump creature, search for any Spell

Cons: 2500 Attack for 5-Mana

In Limited this card is pretty good, but being a Rare makes seeing it, well, rare. A decent pick, but there are better cards. If your draft deck has a lot of Spells and is running Light, take this card.

Tournament: 2.5/5

Limited: 2.5/5
