Bolzard
Dragon
Type: Creature
Civilization: Fire
Race: Armored Dragon
Mana Cost: Six (6)
Rules Text:
Whenever this creature attacks, choose a card in
your opponent's mana zone and put it into his
graveyard.
Flavor Text:
When Bolshack awakes in the east, Bolzard roars in
the west.
Power: 5000
Rarity: Very Rare
Set: Evo-Crushinators of Doom
Power/Cost: Bolzard Dragon comes with a hefty price
tag of six mana. In return you get a decent sized
beatstick that can survive a battle with the weakest
of the weak all the way up to Illusionary Merfolk.
Having such a strong creature on the board can come
in handy, but six mana may not be worth it. Your
opponent can easily take down Bolzard with blockers
(namely Thrash Crawler) and other fatties (Cryptic
Totem anyone?). So be careful investing what will
probably be an entire turn’s worth of resources just
to summon one beast.
Civilization/Race: Fire is of course known for
aggression. Many of the cards are focused on quickly
and efficiently attacking the opponent before they
can fight back. Fire also happens to be home to one
of Duel Masters biggest selling points among kids:
the dragons. Several of the most expensive and
sought-after cards available share their race with
Bolzard Dragon. Now unfortunately for serious
control players out there, those “noobish” Dragons
are about to take on major step towards becoming
truly playable. With the release of Set 08 in a few
weeks time, Bolzard will jump into the spotlight
along with them. Watch out for some upsets at
Nationals guys.
Effects: Bolzard Dragon comes attached with one of
the nastier effects in the game. Once every turn
until your opponent finds a way to stop him, the big
guy trashes a single mana. Therefore, the longer you
can keep Bolzard alive and kicking the punishment he
can dish out. Trust me, that mana your opponent
loses can add up very quickly. So what’s the catch?
Bolzard Dragon lacks Double breaker for starters, an
ability considered standard among creatures costing
six or more. He also comes with a built-in bull’s
eye your opponent will be targeting. Be wary of
Corile, Terror Pit, and the rest. Time to wrap
things up....
Limited: 4/5
Fatties are always excellent picks in draft. Bolzard
happens to lack Double breaker, but the sweet
ability makes up for it.
Constructed: 3.5/5
With major Dragon support just around the corner,
look for Bolzard to become very useful soon. He
already benefits from Cocco Lupia, which allows for
an attack as soon as turn five! You may want to
start trading around for a few copies.
