Lee Sandow

Welcome to Very Rares from Fatal Brood week.  Today, we will be reviewing a bunch of Very Rare cards that are semi-decent, but could be a lot worse.  They could also be a lot better.  Let's start this week off on a really dark note...

Azaghast, Tyrant of Shadows

Cost:  7

Civilization:  Darkness

Card Type:  Creature
Race:  Dark Lord

  • Evolution:  Put on one of your Dark Lords.

  • Double Breaker

  • WHen you put a Ghost into the battle zone, Destroy one of your opponent's untapped creatures.

Flavor Text:  A deathday crasher.

Power: 9000

Mana Generated: 1

Rarity:  Super Rare

Set:  Fatal Brood of Infinate Ruin

Let's see.  Expensive evolution with little cheap evo bait, a weak power level for an evolution, an extremely specfic ability that supports a decent race.  Well, let's not kill him yet...

Civilization/Race:  Well, he fits the description of being Darkness.  He's ugly, and he kills things.  Such is the way of darkness.  He's a Dark Lord, which have a few representatives, some with pretty good abilities.  He also has great synergy with Ghosts, but more on that later.

Cost:  Seven mana is a LOT for an evo creature.  Dark Lords are ALL notorious for having high summoning costs.  He's not cheap, and there's no real way to lower his cost.

Power:  9000 power is good, but really, there's better out there.  And either way, Terror Pit still pwns him.

Ability(s):  He double breaks.  We've been there, done that.  You love it, I love it, we want some more of it.

Secondly, when you put a ghost into the battle zone, you get to Death Smoke an opponent's monster.  This is a real specific requirement, and there aren't too many ghosts worth playing.  This guy could be SICK in a Jack Viper deck, though.

Now that we've looked at these stats, let's see how they stack up!

Constructed Overview:  Meh, he's decent, but not stellar.  He'd need a  deck based around him, but I wouldn't bet the farm on him.  2.5/5

Limited Overview:  I don't think there are any other Dark Lords in this set.  Thus, he cannot be used.  Besides, if memory serves, there are no ghosts to get the effect.  NO/5

I'll actually be at GQ this weekend.  Maybe I'll drop a tourney report.  Feel free to e-mail me any time at rebellee1187@msn.com.  Till then, keep dueling.  Kettou Da!

Wednesday:  I'm guarding the secret with my life.

Ferret Mage Azaghast, Tyrant of Shadows
Darkness
Race: Dark Lord
Cost: 7
Power: 9000
Effect:
-Evolution. (Place on one of your Dark Lords.)
-Whenever you put a ghost into the battle zone, you may destroy one of your opponent's untapped creatures.
-Double Breaker
Flavor: Something about a deathday...

I'm sick so I'll keep this brief.

Race: The only Dark Lords evolution. Dark Lords are widely used but you may be willing to cram a couple in your deck for this baby.

Cost: Most Dark Lords run in the 6 range so the cost isn't so bad. The effect sweetens the deal too.

Power: 7 for 9000. Me likey.

Effect: In a ghost themed deck this card will rock. Double Breaker is standard and evolution detracts a bit. But the ability to destroy untapped creatures is down right nasty if summon a bunch of cheap ghost. Lone Tear anyone?

Constructed: 4/5 Ghost deck please.
Limited: 2/5 Without enough ghosts this card turns into a beatstick.
Art: 4/5 I am Legend.
