Welcome back my fellow Kaijudo
Duelists; it’s been a while! I hope you all had a
great time over the holiday season! Now it’s time to
get back to the dueling gauntlet and start back up
with our reviews. Last time we took a look at number
eight on the list, Cyber Scamp. Today we’re looking
at a card that fits into a lot of different decks,
more specifically, Dragons. Let’s take a look at
number seven: Lyra, the Blazing Sun.
Name: Lyra, the Blazing
Sun
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Celestial Dragon
Level: 6
Power: 6000
Flavor Text: There is no darkness while Lyra
is near.
Rarity: Very Rare
Set Number: 7/55 l 6DSI
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2
shields.)
Solar Flare- When this creature enters the
battle zone, tap target enemy creature. That
creature doesn’t untap at the start of your
opponent’s next turn.
Lyra, the Blazing Sun was first
introduced in Dragonstrike Infernus back in March of
last year. Since then, it has been a dominating
force to be reckoned with. Most decks today that
utilize this card tend to run it in 3s and for good
reason.
Being able to play a level 6
creature with 6000 power and Double Breaker is one
thing, but when you essentially “lock down” your
opponent’s creature for a turn it becomes so much
better. Lyra provides an out to some tempo
strategies, quell a blocker from the board, and can
freeze bigger creatures until you can find an answer
somewhere in your deck. Probably what made Lyra as
popular as it is today, is because it combos so well
with Herald of Infernus. Being able to play Herald
on turn five or sooner and then dropping Lyra to tap
down an opponent’s creature so that Herald can swing
in and activate its effect is devastating.
Lyra essentially deals with a
creature for two turns when you play it. The turn
you summon Lyra you can get around a Blocker freely,
then that Blocker won't be able to untap, so it'll
be sitting there tapped like it was during the
previous turn. To make matters worse, this ability
will prevent your opponent from being able to get
the most out of your evolution creatures. Since the
card is tapped prior to the evolution creature being
placed on it, the evolution creature will also come
into play tapped as well!
Lyra is one of those cards that
has been a staple in a lot of decks and will
continue to be for a long time to come. It is truly
one of the best cards to come out this past year and
is one of the strongest cards in the game to date.
Constructed: 4.75/5.00
(The only things keeping this card from a perfect
score is it can be a little slow against aggressive
decks if you run the card outside of a Dragon deck.)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (With the Fire Birds in
the set, this card is easier than ever to get out.
It may have issues being effective if your opponent
rushes in to deliver that early bird special
though!)
I hope you enjoyed today’s
review! Stay tuned for number six on the list! Make
sure to check out my article on Alter Reality Games
and until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters,
keep calm and game on!
