Hello my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters! Today we’re taking a look at one of our top
rated cards from Shattered Alliances and also our
number five card on our top ten list of 2013.
Today’s card single-handedly challenged people to
come up with alternative strategies to defeat the
card and it’s still a force to be reckoned with to
date. Let’s take a look at Eternal Haven.
Name: Eternal Haven
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Monarch/Angel Command
Level: 10
Power: 15500
Flavor Text: N/A
Rarity: Super Rare
Set Number: S1/S10 l 9SHA
Abilities:
Blocker
(You may tap this creature to change an enemy
creature’s attack to this creature.)
Triple Breaker
Blockade- When this creature enters the battle
zone and whenever it attacks, you may draw a card.
Then you may put a non-evolution creature that is
level 9 or less and has “Blocker” from your hand
into the battle zone.
Aurora Armor- This creature can’t be the
target of your opponent’s spells or abilities.
Light Monarch- Each of your other Light
creatures gets +4000 power.
Eternal Haven gave us the
largest Blocker in the game without any of the
weaknesses that usually come with it; it can’t be
targeted by your opponent’s spells or abilities!
Much like Keeper of Laws, Tricky Turnip, and King
Neptas, spells have little effect whatsoever on this
card unless they don’t specifically target a
creature. If this wasn’t the case, Comet Missile
would have seen a huge increase in play. Instead,
everyone’s initial reaction was to stock up on
Crimson Wyvern to deal with all of the Blockers on
the opponent’s side of the battle zone instead of
just focusing on just one.
We didn’t see a lot of success
in that strategy and that’s when I started focusing
on using Queen Kalima and it inevitably earned me my
invite to the Winter Championships! Kalima didn’t
care about targeting and was the best answer to
Eternal Haven if you weren’t able to get rid of it
before it hit the battle zone. Overall though, the
amount of answers to Eternal Haven were limited and
made people cringe every time it was played. In one
match at the KMC in Ohio, run by the good people of
Alter Reality Games, Christian Van Hoose was playing
against Richard Zapp. Zapp was using a mono-light
rush deck and broke a turn two Bottle of Wishes into
Christian’s Eternal Haven! Talk about a bad
situation for Zapp! Of course, not too long after
this event, Bottle of Wishes was “retired” from the
game.
Eternal Haven is also another
card that automatically provides the player using it
a free card. It then allows you to play a Blocker
that’s level 9 or less, which basically means you
can play any non-evolution Blocker in the game
outside of Haven herself. What makes it worse is
that this occurs when you attack with the card as
well and your opponent can’t do much to stop it.
Being genuinely untargetable, Haven becomes the coup
de grace or the final blow in most games. Not having
to worry about Terror Pit, Root Trap, or Piercing
Judgment allows most Haven players to stay calm and
finish the game with ease.
Don’t forget that Haven also
boosts all of your other light creature’s power
levels by 4000 as well. This makes cards like Keeper
of Laws, Lyra, and Andromeda even stronger than ever
before. New combos started coming out of the
woodworks involving Orion, Radiant Fury and even
Major Ao. If Orion was banished you could
potentially bring out Haven and a bunch of other
creatures that were now supercharged. If you played
Haven and were fortunate enough to have Major Ao in
your hand, you could swing in and attack over your
opponent’s creatures with an 8500 beatstick, untap
him, and attack again!
Haven is a true powerhouse and
will be for quite some time. It can be dealt with
but requires some specific cards or strategies to do
so. This is why Eternal Haven is number five on our
list of the best cards from 2013.
Constructed: 4.75/5.00
(It still takes a little bit of time to set this
card up but it will likely win you the game after
you play it… unless you play against a dedicated
Kalima deck of course ;). )
Limited: 2.50/5.00 (If you can manage to
survive long enough to play this card, let alone
pull it from your packs, you’ll win the game.
Otherwise, it just sits in your hand doing nothing
but take up space.)
Make sure to stop by again tomorrow for number four
on our countdown! Until next time my
fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!
