Hello there my
fellow Duel Masters! Long time no review, right?
Well after talking with my fellow writer, Tyrone,
we’re going to be bringing the reviews back again
and hopefully for a while as well. Today we’re
wrapping up the top ten cards from 2013 and today’s
card has had a lot of hate behind it for its ability
to cheat big creatures into play. Let’s take a look
at number two on the list: Herald of Infernus
Name:
Herald of Infernus
Civilization: Fire
Type:
Creature
Race: Armored Dragon
Level: 5
Power: 5000
Flavor Text:
“Crush them! For the glory of Infernus!”
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
41/55 l 6DSI
Abilities:
War Cry-
Whenever this creature wins a battle, you may put a
non-evolution Dragon from your hand into the battle
zone.
Herald of Infernus
originally came out in the Dragonstrike Infernus set
and was later released via DVD promotion which
included an alternate art version of the card.
Herald is a simple card in concept but can cause a
heap-load of trouble in the right circumstances. In
most situations, Dragon players were given numerous
optimal play set ups to benefit off of his effect. A
turn after playing Herald, one could play Lyra and
tap down one of your opponent’s creatures, play
Stormspark Blast, Piercing Judgment, or they could
even surprise you with a well-timed Herald and Jump
Jets!
In the situations
when this occurred, an Andromeda of the Citadel or
Infernus the Awakened would make an appearance,
while other times, Immolator himself would
obliterate the field. Either way you put it, it put
the opponent at an extreme disadvantage and in some
situations, made it nearly impossible to comeback
from.
Aggressive
strategies were often punished for their desire to
end a game quickly and abruptly, especially when
bottle of wishes was still around. In most cases,
Herald would usually hit the board by turn four
anyway, all while the Fire Birds fought off rush
tactics with an iron beak.
All in all, Herald
of Infernus can be a problematic card that may force
you to not play any creatures as a way to avoid his
ability altogether. Thankfully (at least for some of
us) Herald will be rotating out of the Standard
Format at the end of May, as will all of the other
Dragon-based support cards like Lyra, Lux, Nix, and
Umbra. Until then though, this card will continue to
see play regardless of its notoriety.
Constructed: 5.00/5.00
(A level 5 with 5000 power that can be brought out
regularly on turn four. If it gets in even one
successful attack and wins the battle, expect some
rain with a chance of salt.)
Limited:
5.00/5.00 (The set is based around Dragons and
being able to get them out even earlier is extremely
powerful. Certainly a god among Dragons.)
Make sure to stop by again
tomorrow when we conclude the top ten list with
another powerful Dragon card. So “Cit” tight and
until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep
calm and game |
