Well, it appears that I'm alive
and well or at least recuperating for the moment. I
still wanted to take the time to bring all of you
readers out there with an informative article review
about today's meta-defining Card of the Day. Please
welcome, Infernus the Awakened... you
may want
to hide.
Name: Infernus the Awakened
Civilization: Fire
Type:
Creature
Race: Armored Dragon
Level: 9
Power: 13000
Flavor Text:
None
Rarity:
Super Rare
Set Number:
S4/S5 I 6DSI
Abilities:
Triple
Breaker (This creature breaks 3 shields.)
Inferno
Rockets - When this creature enters the battle
zone and whenever it attacks, banish target enemy
creature that has power 4000 or less.
Infernus's
Decree - Your opponent can't summon creatures
that have power 4000 or less.
There's a reason that this set
is called "Dragonstrike Infernus" and this card is
that reason. Let's start out with some stat
information first. He's a Level 9 with 13000 Power;
that's almost enough to take down a Flamespike
Tatsurion and this guy isn't even an evolution card!
I think that we can all agree that this card sets a
new high for power levels and may make some of us
reconsider some of our former tech cards. A good
example of this is anyone that was using Moorna the
Vengeful. Moorna costs the same but gets rid of two
creatures with 4000 or less power but only one time.
It doesn't have any other effects, it only breaks
two shields and has 5000 less power than Infernus!
Or perhaps we should hit a little bit closer to home
for some of you out there, take a look at Tatsurion
the Unchained in comparison. Tatsurion breaks two
shields, has 6000 power less than Infernus, has the
same ETB ability to destroy a creature with 4000
power or less (but not when he attacks), and his
last ability that causes him to untap and being that
he's two levels less, may be the only reason to
continue to run him!
That's a lot of information to
deal with, I know, but we're not done yet! Every
time that Infernus attacks it gets to banish a 4000
power creature as well. Most people that tend to run
blockers generally don't exceed that power level
outside of a few cards in the Light Civilization.
Not only that but it banishes the card prior to your
opponent being able to block! So it's a very scary
reality that he will successfully break three of
your opponents shields when he attacks!
Lastly we look into Infernus's
Decree. This ability can single-handedly shut down
most decks, especially "Blurple" and "Rush". Not
being able to summon a creature with 4000 power or
less is devastating! Realistically, I want you to
either go get your deck or at least think about your
deck right now. How many cards in your deck have
more than 4000 power? And how many of those do you
normally charge away in your mana zone because their
cost is too high for when you drew them? So unless
you know your opponent is playing with this guy, you
will have some problems dealing with him. I suggest
running more spells to deal with these huge dragons
that we'll all be facing in less than one month.
This set is based around
Dragons and has tons of ways to get them out early.
It is entirely possible that this guy can hit the
field by turn five or six; will you be prepared to
deal with this monstrosity?
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.75/5.00 (This card will see tons of play and will
define the meta! Whether that means that everyone
will run more shield blasts or spells in general,
I'm not sure at this time but I would expect Wizards
to put a few answers in this set to deal with
Dragons; time will only tell.)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (This card stops your opponent from playing close
to half if not more of their deck. Play this card if
you pull it in Limited; it may be a little slow but
you'll still be able to cast it by turn seven in the
Dragonstrike Infernus set.)
I hope you enjoyed today's
review! Check back tomorrow when we finally put away
some of the big guns and trade them in for something
a little more edible. Until next time, keep cool and
Kaijudo!
