Greetings my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters! My name’s
Mark Woodin but I go by Raijinku on just about every
online forum. This is my first ever Card of the Day
review and I’m really excited to be part of the
online community! I’ve been playing TCG’s for 15
years and have learned a lot during this time and
perhaps I can share some of my insight with you
guys. The most competitive game that I’ve invested
into over the years has been Yu-Gi-Oh!. I’ve been to
tons of major events including Shonen Jump
Championships and Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series in
Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, and even Canada. I
have qualified for Nationals in: 2005, 2006, 2009,
2010, and 2012. My biggest and most recent
accomplishment was at a YCS in Columbus, Ohio, where
I placed 34th out of over 1,100
competitors with a new deck that I called, "Castor
Chaos"… due to some issues with tie breakers/people
dropping, I didn’t quite make the top 32. I do tend
to take these games seriously, but it’s also all
about having fun and challenging yourself too! Well,
enough about me… without further ado, let’s get
started!
Today’s
Card of the Day is the Celestial Dragon of the Light
Civilization: Orion, Radiant Fury. When I first got
a glimpse of this card, I thought that it was
extremely overpowered but soon realized that is more
balanced then I had given it credit for.
Let’s
get to the basics before we break it down a bit,
shall we? It costs 9 mana to bring out into the
battle zone, which isn’t something that a lot of
decks can do in a game unless they are running a
“mana ramp” deck or unless they have been playing a
very slow or control oriented match.
It’s a
Double Breaker. If this card wasn’t, I would be very
surprised! He’s also the only Super Rare in the Evo
Fury set that wasn’t an “Evolution” creature, so he
had some hype to live up to.
His
first ability, “Laser Lances” states: “When this
creature enters the battle zone, tap up to 3 target
enemy creatures.” This is basically either a watered
down “Stormspark Blast” or a slightly powered up
“Helios Rings”. This ability being attached to a
creature is definitely welcome to the light
civilization and can create an opening and apply
that extra pressure late game.
His
second ability was one of the main selling points
for me when I first saw this card spoiled. “Three
Headed” states: “When this creature is banished,
look at the top 3 cards of your deck. You may put
any number of non-evolution light creatures from
among them into the battle zone. Put the rest on the
bottom of your deck in any order.” Wait a minute…
You’re telling me that if this guy dies that I can
potentially replace him with three other cards from
my deck?! Yes. However, my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters, let’s be realistic… All of us tend to run
these things called, “Shield Triggers” or other
various “Spells”. So at least one of the cards you
reveal is likely to be one of those. Also, unless
you’re using “Mono-Light,” you’ll likely hit another
color card as well. In a dedicated build, you’ll be
lucky to hit 1-2 creatures with this ability… maybe
you’ll get a blocker or some other “Enter the battle
zone” ability. Now, don’t get me wrong, that in
itself is still an amazing trade off! Anything that
can replace itself or create advantage is well worth
considering!
The
last item on the list is his power level… IT’S OVER
9000!!!! (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!). With a
power of 10,500, not much is going to get by this
big guy! Unless it faces off against a select few
evolution creatures or a user of the Darkness
Civilization, odds are he’ll be on the field for a
while.
Okay,
so there’s plenty that this guy can do and he’s not
something you want to be staring down when you’re
using a Fire Civilization deck (as they don’t have a
lot of spells or firepower to deal with such a
behemoth). Nature can deal with him as long as they
have a Root Trap available; Water can bounce him
back to the hand or deck; Darkness easily puts him
to rest at the cost of activating his ability… which
potentially could bring ANOTHER one of him onto the
field, activating his Laser Lances ability! Light
pretty much has to rely on tapping him, blocking, or
buying as much time as they can.
Well to
sum things up, Orion is one nasty card to deal with
but amazing for the person who is able to harness
his power. In a dedicated build, this guy can really
shine, no pun intended… Since Light decks tend to
run a lot of blockers, they could very well get to
turn nine before you know it. Orion is both a fun
and competitive card to play around with, expect to
see this guy in Light or Light/Nature decks in the
future!
Ratings:
Constructed: 3.5/5 (Slow to start but when he hits
the field, a huge momentum shift can occur!)
Limited
(Draft): 4/5 (As long as your opponent isn’t running
a “Rush Deck”, it can be too much to deal with)

Orion, Radiant Fury CotD
When 4EVO: Evo Fury was released it was a new era of
tactics for the game we all know and love, one card
specifically caught my eye and is still one of my
favorites:
Orion, Radiant Fury
Cost: 9
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Celestial Dragon
Card Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Laser Lances — When this creature enters the battle
zone, tap up to 3 target enemy creatures.
Three Headed — When this creature is banished, look
at the top 3 cards of your deck. You may put any
number of non-evolution Light creatures from among
them into the battle zone. Put the rest on the
bottom of your deck in any order.
At first glance he is truly an incredible card with
the potential to shift the meta, but as we look more
into it we realize that currently there isn't nearly
enough to support our lone Celestial Dragon which
greatly hampered his viability.
Let's take a look at his abilities:
Laser Lances - When this creature enters the battle
zone, tap up to 3 target enemy creatures.
That's a really powerful ability, tapping creatures
tends to be something that the Light civilization
does and all of the Light creatures with blocker are
skirmishers which means they can attack enemy
creatures! With a field already in place Orion could
potentially be a board wipe in the form of a massive
10500!
That's the next point about Orion, he's the third
highest powered non-evolution creature in the entire
game! Paling in comparison only to Earthstomp Giant
and Old Man Winter.
His next ability:
Three Headed - When this creature is banished, look
at the top 3 cards of your deck. You may put any
number of non-evolution Light creatures from among
them into the battle zone. Put the rest at the
bottom of your deck in any order.
Wow! Even if Orion is banished he leaves creatures
in his wake! The only catch is that the creatures
must be of the Light Civilization which means you'll
have to dedicate heavily to that civilization if you
want to get the most out of this effect. The coolest
part? Orion is capable of summoning another Orion
with his own ability!
Notice a pattern here? Taps 3 creatures, 3rd highest
power,Three Headed flips 3 cards. Even his casting
cost is divisible by 3! How many shields does he
break?
That's right, you guessed it:
Two.
What? You didn't guess it right?
In terms of balance, Orion is only a double breaker
and that broke the trend of everything being closely
related to threes.
Our three headed Celestial friend hasn't seen much
play yet, but that may change soon. We've been
promised more Celestial Dragons in the future! Right
now though, without enough support, he's just not
the game breaking force that he could have been.
Constructed Rating: 3/5
Look at that, I guess the three trend did continue! |

First of all, I just wanted to wish everybody a
happy new year and hope that you guys had a great
holiday! My name is Alexander Hugh Sam aka AHShadow
on Pojo and I have
the pleasure of bringing you the first Kaijudo COTD:
Orion, Radiant Fury!
Orion, Radiant Fury is a level 9, Celestial Dragon,
of the Light civilisation with 10500 power and
possesses three abilities:
- Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
- Laser Lances — When this creature enters the
battle zone, tap up to 3 target enemy creatures.
- Three Headed — When this creature is banished,
look at the top 3 cards of your deck. You may put
any number of non-evolution Light creatures from
among them into the battle
zone. Put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any
order.
Advantages:
With the exception of Earthstomp Giant, Orion,
Radiant Fury is the strongest attacking
non-evolution monster that you can have on the
board, which means that summoning
this card to the battle zone will most likely pose
a threat to the opponent, and with good reason. Not
only does he possess a big body, he also threatens
the opponent with
his multiple abilities. His second ability, "Laser
Lances", makes Orion, Radiant Fury a walking
Stromspark Blast and could help deal with annoying
blockers, or big monsters
that did not attack the last turn. Paired with cards
that can exploit this effect, such as Lepidos, the
Ancient is where this card would shine the most. For
example,
if you already have a Lepidos, the Ancient on the
field, you would be able to use Orion, Radiant
Fury's effect to tap three creatures on the field
and then use Lepidos' effect
to destroy a tapped creature and send a shield to
the mana zone without giving your opponent a card in
hand! His last ability, stated above, is the one
that caught my eye the
most. This means that even if your opponent does
have an out to this card and decides to banish it,
you can still keep your momentum going by summoning
even more monsters;
imagine getting a second or even a third Orion,
Radiant Fury on the field!
Weaknesses:
I honestly think that the biggest weakness that this
card has is his civilization. The Light civilization
is no doubt the weakest of the 5 and this affects
the competitiveness
of Orion, Radiant Fury way more than you think. The
most common non-evo loght creatures are "Keeper of
Dawn", "Chasm Entangler", "Blinder Beetle" and
"Starlight Strategist",
which are only a handful of monsters and most of
them that usually won't be maxed out in decks that
play them. And even then, I find that most of the
cards that can be put
into the battle zone are not as threatening as
creatures from the other civilisations. In other
words, the Light civilisation lacks "finishers" such
as Tatsurion, the Unchained,
Bolt-Tail Dragon, Dark Scaradorable, Waterspout
Gargoyle. This makes Orion, Radiant Fury pretty
inconsistent when trying to use his third effect and
makes dealing with Orion,
Radiant Fury easier to do.
Summary:
All in all, I think that Orion, Radiant Fury is
still a great threat and can be really hard to deal
with, especially when lady luck is on your side.
Hopefully, next set
we will get more Light finishers, so that Orion,
Radiant Fury can be as good as he is supposed to be! |

Orion, Radiant Fury
Civilization - light
Race - Celestial Dragon
Level - 9
Power - 10500 {Double Breaker}
Orion, Radiant fury does a lot, first off we notice
he has a whopping 10.5k power, there are 5 creatures
in the game that can beat that of those -4- of them
are evos. So not much is gonna go toe to toe with
orion.
With that kind of power double breaker is to be
expected.
His first ability "Laser Lances" lets him tap not
one, not two, but three creatures when he enters the
battle zone. You can shut down three of your
opponents blockers or make three of your opponents
creatures vulnerable to attack or anything in
between.
His second ability "Three headed", means that even
if your opponent does manage to kill him you get to
look at the top three cards of your deck and put all
non-evolution light creatures from among them into
the battle zone.
All of this has a cost though, and that cost is
nine, not a lot of decks can get to nine mana
consistently.
Now does that mean Orion is too expensive to play?
No, because we have a civilization that's all about
making giant fatties look cheap, namely nature. And
nature has a card that would love a giant battle
winning fattie that taps three dudes, namely Lepidos
the ancient. In essence, Orion is a very specific
card that belongs in the Lepidos deck and not much
else, but in that deck he's a great support tool
that can devastate your opponent by doing everything
the deck wants. Anywhere else he is likely too
cumbersome to play however, as cool as three headed
robot dragons with laser breath are.
3 / 5 overall (2/5 generally, 4/5 in lepidos deck)
