DragonStrike Infernus has
officially been out and available to the public for
the last couple of days and already it’s making an
impact in the meta! I would expect to see a ton
of dragons at your local scene in the next few weeks
and leading into Duel Days and the Kaijudo Master
Challenges. For those of you who aren’t too familiar
with the set, this week we’ll be reviewing over the
very rares and letting you know what we think about
them, combos, and so on. Today’s card is probably
one of the most widely appreciated cards: Lyra, the
Blazing Sun. Let’s get started!
Name: Lyra, the Blazing
Sun
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Celestial Dragon
Level: 6
Power: 6000
Flavor Text: There is no darkness while Lyra
is near.
Rarity: Very Rare
Set Number: 7/55 l 6DSI
Abilities:
Double Breaker (This creature breaks 2
shields.)
Solar Flare- When this creature enters the
battle zone, tap target enemy creature. That
creature doesn’t untap at the start of your
opponent’s next turn.
Lyra is pretty basic and balanced for its level.
6000 power and Double Breaker for a level six is
alright but it needed something else to really sell
it to the public. With the addition of the Solar
Flare technique to Lyra, it became better… a lot
better. Its effect is very similar to Evo Fury
Tatsurion’s Dragon Wings ability, except it also
taps the creature, locking it down for an entire
turn if you decide not to banish it. Also,
apparently the ruling on this card is that you can
target a creature that is already tapped to keep it
tapped for a turn. The other ruling that people may
be unaware about, is if your creature gets locked
down with solar flare and you evolve it, your
creature is no longer affected by that condition.
That comes straight from the Kaijudo.com FAQ section
of their website
(http://www.kaijudo.com/faq/card-sets.html).
Being able to stall your
opponent while you’re getting your dragons out is
great for you but can become even better when you
lock down one of their blockers or bigger threats
such as Infernus the Awakened. Why even worry about
him if he’s not going to be attacking any time soon?
Just swing away at your opponent’s shields to your
heart’s content!
Lyra is a great card for those
who seek to control their opponents and be in
control of the game itself. It can put your opponent
at a huge disadvantage… just don’t go using Lyra’s
effect against an Issyl of the Frozen Wastes, okay?
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.25/5.00
(A very solid card. Being able to prevent a creature
from attacking or blocking for an entire turn gives
you extra time to consider your options or just beat
your opponent’s shields into the ground!)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (Lyra
may not be a powerhouse in the limited environment;
however, it can lock your opponent down and stop
them from setting up their own combos. Definitely
worth using!)
That does it for today’s card!
Make sure you stop in tomorrow when we continue our
reviews of some very interesting cards. Until
next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm
and game on!
