It’s Thursday and fast
approaching the weekend and for some, SPRING BREAK!
I’m sure you all have plenty of plans but let’s not
forget that in just over a week we’ll get our first
taste of DragonStrike Infernus! Alrighty, let’s get
to today’s card, Razorhide!
Name: Razorhide
Civilization: Nature
Type:
Creature
Race: Beast Kin
Level: 3
Power: 2000
Flavor Text:
“The thorn gods remain unkind to our half
brother.”
Rarity:
Common/Walmart Promo
Set Number:
152/165 l
3RIS and P6 I Y1PRM
Abilities:
Quillspike Harvest- Whenever this creature
attacks, you may put the top card of your deck into
your mana zone.
Razorhide was pretty much a staple in most decks
that were looking for that added mana acceleration.
He essentially was the Aqua Seneschal of the Nature
Realm, except instead of drawing you a card when you
attack, he puts the top card of your deck into your
mana zone,
before your opponent can declare a blocker or
use a shield blast. Fast forward almost a year and
he’s still a very viable option for mixed decks and
especially a deck that focuses around Beast Kin!
Being a Level 3 Beast Kin
creature is a bonus in itself. This means that you
have the option to evolve him into Bronze-Arm
Sabertooth on turn four and break two shields or
banish a powerful creature! Odds are you’ll be
getting at least one free mana off of Razorhide
whether you evolve him or just decide to swing in by
himself.
The fact that Razorhide is 2000
power is both a plus and a minus. He can easily
create advantage by giving you extra mana and also
trade off in battle with the likes of Seneschal,
Fumes, or Gigastand, however, he will often fall to
removal cards like Barrage, Bone Blades, Heat
Seekers, Rock Bite, and so on.
Beast Kin creatures are one of
the well
supported archetypes currently and I doubt that
they’ll stop there anytime soon (seeing as Tatsurion
is half Beast Kin). This card can create advantage
and early pressure for your opponent; expect to see
this card around for months to come, at least!
Ratings:
Constructed: 4.00/5.00 (This is a well-balanced card for his power
and level overall. Add in the fact that it can take
down other turn three or less creatures and a mana
accelerant that can evolve into Bronze-Arm
Sabertooth or Flamespike Tatsurion and you have
yourself a winner!)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (In limited play, he can get you multiple turns
ahead of your opponent for free, allowing you to
summon more powerful creatures and win the game
before they even know they’re on the other side of
the veil!)
What do Chris Brown and
tomorrow’s card have in common? Make sure to stop by
and see for yourself! Until then, remember to keep
calm and game on!
