Happy Halloween my fellow
Kai-boo-do duelists! Cheesy? I know, right? Tonight
a lot of people will go out into the community
dressed up in costumes and masks and ask for candy
from strangers… probably the only time this is ever
an acceptable practice in society! Well, today’s
Kaiju is also going out for some tricks and treats
and he’s already got a mask picked out!
Name: Masked Gravewing
Civilization: Darkness/Nature
Type: Creature
Race: Dread Mask/Beast Kin
Level: 5
Power: 6000
Flavor Text: “What travels on obsidian wings/
Between the worlds of beasts and kings?” –Ancient
Kaiju riddle
Rarity: Uncommon
Set Number: 77/80 l 9SHA
Abilities:
(This card enters your mana zone tapped.)
Skirmisher (This creature can attack only
creatures.)
Spirit Swap- Whenever this creature wins a
battle, choose a creature in your discard pile and
return it to your hand.
Masked Gravewing is one of the
few Darkness/Nature cards that we currently have
access to. By itself, it stands at 6000 power at a
level 5 position giving it decent value by those
stats alone. When looking closer at the card we see
that it has a word that most players don’t want to
see (outside of maybe Light players), “Skirmisher.”
Gravewing has a really
effective and useful ability that can easily give
you an upper-hand against your opponent. Every time
it wins a battle, you get to choose a creature from
your discard pile and add it to your hand! Sadly,
outside of creature battles, this card won’t be
doing much. This card has some usefulness versus
Dragons if you can manage to get it out and can keep
Herald of Infernus at bay while trading with Lyra,
the Blazing Sun.
There are some cards in
Invasion Earth (the set was revealed in full
yesterday on Kaijudo.com) that will work well with
this card like “Shadow Strike,” which lowers a
creatures power in the battle zone equal to one of
your creatures, in this case, 6000 power. If they
happen to reach 0 power, the creature will be
banished.
If this card didn’t have
Skirmisher and had Double Breaker, this card would
be a no-brainer for my Kalima deck. Sadly, that’s
not the case. I’ll have to look elsewhere to fulfill
my other civilization requirements.
Constructed: 2.75/5.00
(It’s neat that you can return a creature to your
hand when you win a battle, but if your opponent
doesn’t play creatures or attack with them,
Gravewing is just going to sit around waiting until
next Halloween for its graveyard treats.)
Limited: 3.25/5.00 (In limited this guy can
take down a lot of creatures and that’s important
since limited is a very aggressive game for the
Shattered Alliances set.)
Make sure to stop by again
tomorrow as we finish up our week of reviews!
Until next time my fellow Kaijudo Duel
Masters, keep calm and game on!
