This is it my fellow Kaijudo
Duelmasters, the number one card from Shattered
Alliances! This card had a ton of hype leading up to
the release of the set and for good reason. This
card single-handedly has been changing the game to
the point that players are making the effort to
combat this new deck type. Let’s take a look at our
number one card, Eternal Haven.
Name: Eternal Haven
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Race: Monarch/Angel Command
Level: 10
Power: 15500
Flavor Text: N/A
Rarity: Super Rare
Set Number: S1/S10 l 9SHA
Abilities:
Blocker
(You may tap this creature to change an enemy
creature’s attack to this creature.)
Triple Breaker
Blockade- When this creature enters the battle
zone and whenever it attacks, you may draw a card.
Then you may put a non-evolution creature that is
level 9 or less and has “Blocker” from your hand
into the battle zone.
Aurora Armor- This creature can’t be the
target of your opponent’s spells or abilities.
Light Monarch- Each of your other Light
creatures gets +4000 power.
Eternal Haven has been hyped up
for months and months. I've heard rumors of this
card's effects ranging from creating token creatures
to giving you three to four shields. Obviously none
of these were correct, but it was fun while it
lasted. As it turns out the effects that they gave
Haven actually make it better than if it did
generate more shields... eventually getting extra
shields can be a bad thing and can force you to deck
out if the effects are played over and over again.
Haven is a massive 15500
creature, meaning that there are only a select few
cards that can actually get over it in terms of
power. To make things even more difficult, WOTC gave
this card "Blocker," making this the best Blocker in
the game. Now Wizards thought this out, in normal
circumstances a simple Comet Missile could thwart
this card with ease. To get around that aspect it
was given the ability "Aurora Armor" which makes it
unable to be targeted by spells or abilities that
your opponent controls! So we have a nearly
invincible Blocker that only dies to Slayers,
Crimson Wyvern, and a few other specific cards.
To make things worse the
"Blockade" ability allows you to automatically draw
a card and then put a level 9 or less Blocker into
the battle zone... luckily it didn't say level 10 or
less! Regardless, we have gotten some really good
Blockers in this set, specifically one we reviewed
earlier this week, Twilight Archon. So you can
potentially play Haven followed by an Archon for
free! Yeah, that's 19 mana for 10, that seems really
good! To make the situation even more ridiculous,
every time you attack you also regain that ability
to draw and place a Blocker on board!
Lastly, we already have a ton
of Light civilization creatures that are just
amazing by themselves, now imagine giving them an
additional 4000 power! Andromeda can trade off with
your opponent's Haven and your Keeper of Laws just
became 7500 power creatures with the same "untargetable"
ability.
Haven is meant to thrive in
decks that use a lot of Blockers, however, this card
can literally be splashed into any deck. The ability
that makes it untargetable, the fact it's a Blocker,
and that it can break three shields is just crazy.
This is one, if not the best, finisher in the entire
game. This card will continue to see play in mass
amounts, but don't worry, people will develop
anti-haven strategies. Perhaps Queen Kalima will
dethrone this behemoth? The battle will be waging on
at the upcoming KMCs, I can assure you that!
Constructed: 5.00/5.00
(The fact that this card can fit into any deck as a
finisher and that it can be randomly be played by
Bottle of Wishes is just enough to make anyone rage.
Start teching in some Slayers and Wyverns and I'm
sure you'll be alright though ;) )
Limited: 3.50/5.00 (Stop your opponent from
attacking you and load up on Blockers and you'll win
the game as long as you can survive long enough to
play this card.)
I hope you have enjoyed our top
ten countdown of Shattered Alliances set! We'll see
you all again on Monday! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
