Hello again everyone and
welcome back to Pojo.com's Card of the Day! Today
we're going to be taking a look at a card from the
original Tatsurion VS Razorkinder battle decks. This
card may be a bit unfamiliar to you and if you heard
someone talking about it on the streets, you'd
probably think they were talking about a Pokémon.
Let's take a look at Flametropus.
Name: Flametropus
Civilization: Fire
Type:
Creature
Race: Rock Brute
Level: 5
Power: 4000+
Flavor Text:
"Did you forget what a nightmare it was just
getting it into the vault? -Master Jaha
Rarity:
Rare
Set Number:
26/43 l 1TVR
Abilities:
Lava Stomp-
While you have no other creatures in the battle
zone, this creature has "Powerful Attack +4000" and
"Double Breaker." (A creature that has "Powerful
Attack +4000" and "Double Breaker" gets +4000 power
while attacking and breaks 2 shields.)
Flametropus honestly sounds
like a bad sci-fi movie title or the next new ride
at Six Flags... If it doesn't sound familiar to you,
it's likely because no one ever really uses it. It's
a Rock Brute, an irrelevant race currently in this
game, with 4000 power at level 5. You would think it
would at least be a level 5 with 5000 power, but
again, this was in the very first set of the game.
His effect, Lava Stomp, makes
him shine when he's by himself in the battle zone.
He gains the ability to break two shields and gain
4000 power
only while attacking. Don't get this confused
with a continuous ability that constantly puts him
at 8000 as a new player might easily get that
confused.
So he's able to take down most
creatures up to maybe turn seven or eight but
limiting yourself to one solitary creature seems
like the wrong call. I imagine you'll be waiting for
your opponent to play some form of removal on him so
you can finally play all of your other decent
creatures. I suppose there could be some kind of
combo with him where you fixate on just playing big
beaters and removal spells, but not currently.
One of the biggest issues is
that there are so many ways to deal with this guy.
We have creatures out now that can't be the target
of spells or abilities as well as creatures with
power levels over
9000!!!
This guy can also be quelled with a Flame Tornado or
can be slowed down severely with any bounce spells
or mechanics. This card just isn't needed right now
for decks and likely won't see any play outside of a
very limited
limited format.
Constructed: 1.00/5.00 (He's outclassed by just about everything and
forces you into a dangerous and potentially losing
situation!)
Limited:
1.75/5.00 (You can apply some pressure with this
guy in the battle decks, but outside of that he will
likely not last long in the battle zone for whatever
reason.)
Thanks for stopping by
everyone! If you guys haven't had the chance to look
through all of the spoilers for Shattered Alliances
yet, you're missing out! Don't be left in the dark
when the set hits this Friday the 13th! Until next
time my fellow Kaijudo Duel Masters, keep calm and
game on!
