Balancing Your Duel Masters Deck: Part II Hey! This is cgman with a third tip for deck building! This was something that I meant to put into my last article(Balancing Your Duel Masters Deck) but forgot about completely. I suggest that you read that tip before reading this one. I will discuss how much of the four S's should be included in your deck. Strategy: This will be different for everyone. Some people only need one card for their deck's focus (such as a Bolshack Dragon Deck) whereas others may require several different cards in order to obtain their ultimate goal (such as a Water civilization deck containing cards that will create a "lock" on your opponent's creatures and mana cards by forcing them to reuse their mana to summon a creature multiple times.) I will discuss both of these types of deck strategies for each of the S's. If you only need a few cards (1-3) to make up your deck strategy, you should put in at least 3 of each of those cards. If your deck focus contains many cards with the same general purpose(Water cards; 4-6), you will need to balance between them. I would probably go with 4 of the major card, such as Aqua Sniper, and about 2 of the other cards. This will allow you to have plenty of room for the other needed parts, or S's, of your deck. Strength: Every deck will need at least one set of three of a powerful creature to help them with the more powerful creatures that their opponent might pit against them, however, I like to use two sets of three. This will ensure that I can have enough that 1) at least one will not be in my mana zone, and 2) I will have a higher chance of drawing one during the times that I need them the most. Unless this is a major part of your strategy, this should be a good number for your deck. Speed: You will need some cards that you will be able to play within the first few turns, because otherwise you'll have nothing to defend you early on. Plus, some cards will be needed that you will not necessarily need all the time that you can play as mana. You should have a good number of cards in your deck for this purpose, but the maximum you will probably want in your deck is ten, unless it is a major part of your deck. For decks requiring several cards for your strategy, you will not need as many, because you will have extra "strategy" cards left over that you will not need to use, although you still need creatures that you can summon quickly. Spells: Spells should be put in every deck, and, unless it is part of your strategy, should probably not exceed 15. This is a great number to use as a guideline, but you should probably have a minimum of 5. Most of these can be included in the "strategy" of your deck. Hope this helped, and please don't give me a lot of hatemail because you disagree, but I am open to other people's opinions. -cgman
