Today we'll be reviewing Baron Strucker from Sinister

THANKS.  I owe a lot to Pojo to for my big win.  In the upcoming weeks I’ll be writing a lot of different articles on how I won the World Championship of Heroclix at Philly.  Thanks for reading and all of your support.  I will be splitting these articles between, Pojo, Critical Hit and HC Realms so if you want to get the full story you’ll have to check every where.

I love characters that are balder then me.  Makes me feel good about me.

Unique:  74 points, Hydra Team

MOVEMENT:  Stealth, is not too bad.  It works well for his mirror image Icons Joker.

ATTACK:  9 attack is really bad in this case.  Since you have to commit a character to carry him around, you really need a guaranteed hit.

DEFENSE:  17 with Mastermind is great, it works great with the Joker.

DAMAGE:  3 damage is great, but not with Leadership.  He is a push click character, do not kid yourself.  Once he gains Blades and Outwit he’s a lot better.

SCULPT:  Dude, look at him… what joke can I make that he is not already making himself.

OVERALL:

*       Leadership is terrible to start with

*       Push clicking a character should mean that they become great, he is not great

*       He has a host of good abilities, but since he has Mastermind the only clicks that matter are his Mastermind clicks.

*       High Defense

*       Way too low attack

*       Cheaper then Icons Joker

*       He’s no Icons Joker

ealHeal

In Honor of Rock, I decided to review Strucker, but overall he’s a waste of time.  He’s not terrible, because he can push into some dangerous abilities.  A nearly impossible to kill Stealth, Outwitter with Blades/Claws and Mastermind is definitely no throw away click.  He’s fantastic on a Hydra team and definitely will go on my bald characters team, but for competitive play Icons Joker is going to have the last laugh.

HE RECEIVES 3 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 THUMBS UP!

Powers and analysis:
1st click is full of Stealth, Super Strength, Mastermind and Leadership. 2nd swaps in Blades/Claws/Fangs and Outwit. Click 3 loses Stealth and gains Combat Reflexes and Perplex. #4 swaps in Poison for the attack slot. Click 5 gains Battle Fury. The final two clicks regain BCF and add Willpower.

Good early stats and power placement. That early SStrength might be good, as it gives him a high potential to do high damage. You could walk him to
hindering terrain next to an enemy and push to his 2nd and best click so he can hide and Outwit. However, he needs Mastermind fodder so you'll probably best hold him back for a bit.

After the early clicks, he's all about close combat, so use him as such. Recommend he only go after soft targets or those who are in his face anyway. Or, if no targets of opportunity are in reach, sit back and Perplex your forces to victory.

Feats:
With all the new Hydra drones in the set, INSPIRING COMMAND is a given...if you don't mind only using it for those two early clicks. BRILLIANT TACTICIAN is a good selection as well.

Themes:
Hydra. Hydra! HYDRA!!! HAIL HYDRAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

In sum:
At 74 points, he feels a tad expensive, but those early clicks are pretty worth it. Use him as a background leader and you'll do fine.

Rating: 3/5

Hi everyone! Today, as we progress with Sinister, we take a look at a
Unique: Baron Strucker. Given that I know so little about this dude, I’ll skip the comments and go straight to the review: He costs 74 points, and for that you get (besides a sweet sculpt): 7 clicks of life, 4 range 1 target, and the Hydra TA. By the way, he’s not a flyer nor has he an archenemy:

Stats:

Speed: 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6, 5. 1st and 2nd click have Stealth, and that’s it.

Attack: 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7. 1st click has Super Strength, 2nd and 3rd B/F/C, following 2 are Poison and then 2 of B/F/C again.

Defense: 17, 17, 16, 15, 14, 15, 15. 1st and 2nd click have Mastermind, following 3 have Combat Reflexes, and the last 2 have Willpower.

Damage: 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1. 1st click has Leadership, 2nd has Outwit, then follow 2 of Perplex and the rest is Battle Fury.

Analysis: His first click, you’ll always want to get past. He has Super Strength which is useless for him, and also Leadership, which on him I don’t appreciate. The second is his best click, the only one where he has Outwit and when, while keeping his 9AV, he has Blades; and also has Stealth. Once you are past that 2nd click, he’s almost useless, unless he has based
someone: he has no Speed powers, his Attack and Defense powers work best from close. His values are average, damage is low (Perplex will have to be used on himself most likely), he’s not easy to heal except on his 5th click… but you’ll want him fighting there, no running to the medic…

Conclusion: I see no reason to play him, or worry when you see him on your opponent’s side of the field. Just ignore him while he’s on his first click, when he gets pushed to his second click just make sure to keep away from him and his Outwit, and deal with the rest of his team… once you’re done, go and get him.

Rating:

200 – 1/5
300 – 1/5
400+ – 1/5

Today's review is Baron Strucker from Sinister

Hmmm, if I remember correctly, he is the leader of Hydra…or was…check Whoclix…I suck at these background things.

He is a Unique, 74 points, 7 clicks of life, 4 range 1 target, and Hydra Team

Speed: 8,7,7,7,6,6,5  Stealth the first two

Attack: 9,9,8,8,8,7,7  Super Strength first, blades claws next two, poison two after, then blades to finish

Defense: 17,17,16,15,14,15,15  Mastermind first two, Combat Reflexes next three, Willpower till end

Damage: 3,3,2,2,2,1,1  Leadership for 1, Outwit for 1, Poison for two, then ends with 3 of Battle Fury

The Good: Love the Hydra team

                     Opening Stealth is always good, Push to Outwit is even better

                     Mastermind, Stealth, CF, make him hard to hurt

                     Nice Defense values but hard to heal

                     Decent damage numbers with good abilities except for Battle Fury

                     Stealth and Mastermind makes him really hard to hit

The Bad:  Stealth with Super Strength and Blades is not a good combo

                    Why go for blades when you have a 3 damage with outwit?

                    4 range is no good but better than nothing

                    Ugh…Battle Fury

Feats:  Inspiring Command, Fortitude to keep him on Mastermind are good, then of course ICWO for the attack or damage.  I do not think Protected is really necessary for him.

Overall:  Hmmm, quite the nice addition to the standard hydra team.  With a simple push, you have a stealthed outwitter who can be carried around as mobile blocking terrain by a trick-shotter and can also do some damage if they get close.  He needs help to be playable; Lockjaw carrying Lian Harpers will be his best friend.  On Hydra teams he will be always used, and in constructed the Baron could see some play.  Of course, starter Batman is much better for Stealth and Outwit, but this guy is pretty good in his own way. Personally, I probably will not be playing him in anything outside of Hydra teams, but I am sure some people will.  Overall he is not bad, not great, but in between.  He is one of the better mediocre pieces to come from this set.

Constructed/Unrestricted: 2.5 / 5

Sealed/Draft: 3 / 5 (The stealth, outwit, and team works great with Bullseye and Blackbolt)

Overall: 2.5 / 5

Baron Strucker is like the illegitimate love child of a good click and a bad click.  A lot things about him seem pretty damn decent, like the mastermind and reasonable defense.  The damage is good enough for a figure of his cost, and leadership actually isn't wasted, but front loaded outwit would have been better.  The super strength is pretty pointless, at only one click of it.  You are almost going to want to push him to his second click, but he deops too quickly to do that.  The poison is nice, but on a lame click for it, shoulda overlapped with mastermind.  I guess we should be thankfull it doesn't overlap with willpower.  The blades at the end is wasted, the attack is too low, and you are going to want to run back to mommy at that point.  I supposed you could use brilliant tactician on him, to boost up some fellow cheap hydra members, but the perplex is also oddly placed for it.  In a marquee pull he is actually quite useful, but in a regular game your better off spending the points on feats, or a cheap ranged attacker.

100:   1.621/5
200:   1.843/5
300:   1.887/5  (2.8 in marquee)
400:   2.421/5 you might actually be able to pair him with a lockjaw an take potshots at support characters here for around 100 points.
500:   2.564/5
600+: 2.113/5 3 fortitudes are a better bet, hes gonna get taken out too quickly.
