Today we'll be reviewing Ganthet from Green Lantern Corps Collectors Set

Officially the highest point single base character in the game.

Experienced: 286 points, Quintessence Team

MOVEMENT:  SIGH…..  Phasing.  Pretty much this ONE fact makes him unplayable.  Running shot later on is great and those are some brutally dangerous clicks.

ATTACK: 12 is fantastic.  TK is pointless unless you’re playing a 1,000 point game.  Who is he going to TK out?  He’s the entire team!  Incapacitate????  You have to be kidding me.  He hits for 6 damage on one of those clicks!!!  Psychic Blast is nice.  Pulsewave is great.  So just to summarize his best stuff starts on his 9th click.

DEFENSE:  18 with Impervious is a nice start, but given the points I kinda wanted a 20 defense or something.  BARRIER???  What is the scenario in which you would use Barrier when you are playing a one figure team?  Invulnerability is nice, but his defense should definitely spike.. somewhere on the dial.  Regeneration on his last two clicks is perhaps his best feature.

DAMAGE:  LEADERSHIP???  Oh come on!  Leadership???  Wow, that is definitely the worst ability to have on a 286 point character.  Outwit is always nice.  Ranged Combat Expert will let him take out figures in a single hit.  Perplex is nice I guess.  Outwit at the end is always a good thing.  For the points his damage should never go below 4.

SCULPT:  Ares looks like he could really whoop his butt.

FEATS:  You can’t afford any.  But in a higher point game you pretty much have to slap on every feat you can.

OVERALL:

*       Anybody notice that he is about the same point cost has your entire 300 point team.

*       Only one target will limit his use.  He will probably lose to a couple Hyper Sonic Speed figures that he can’t ever catch

*       He will never take pushing damage and can’t be Outwitted

*       Just a bunch of  ridiculous abilities that will never be used

*       Probably over priced by nearly a hundred points.

*       Much better than Parallax

*       Pretty sure Ares would win in a one on one fight

ealHeal

He’s more of a gimmick then anything.  Nobody is going to play him in a real competition, but that will not stop crazy folk from saying he’s broken.  The general rule is that if you are playing a single character, the most important thing is their movement.  The blue guy here is pretty much a gimp when it comes to movement.  Sure he can move far, but he’s definitely going to get hit first.  He may not even hit third.

Play him against Parallax for fun, because he’s a fun figure, but in the world of competitive play.  He’s lame.

HE RECEIVES 1.5 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 THUMBS UP!

Powers and analysis:
1: Phasing/Teleport, Telekinesis, Impervious, Leadership
2: Phasing/Teleport, Telekinesis, Impervious, Outwit
3: Phasing/Teleport, Telekinesis, Barrier, Ranged Combat Expert
4: Phasing/Teleport, Incapacitate, Barrier, Ranged Combat Expert
5: Phasing/Teleport, Incapacitate, Barrier, Perplex
6: Phasing/Teleport, Psychic Blast, Invulnerability, Perplex

8: Running Shot, Psychic Blast, Invulnerability, Outwit
9: Running Shot, Pulse Wave, Invulnerability, Outwit
10: Pulse Wave, Regeneration, Outwit
11: Pulse Wave, Regeneration

16 points. That's all that separates Ganthet's cost from that of the notorious 270-point Parallax, as cost-inefficient a fig as you'll find in Heroclix (and one I'm still a big fan of). So why is papa smurf here so much better? He has better range. Better starting defense -- vital for a character who can't attack on the move. Much higher average attack that bottoms out at NINE. Ability to hit for 6 clicks unaided. Running Shot. The Quintessence TA, enabling him to push at will and not need Fortitude just to have a chance against the average team. Regen so he can help himself late-dial. All this while having nearly the same numbers on the dial.

Ganthet lacks Plax's many clicks of Probability Control, though, and his opening Outwit, so he's a little disadvantaged there. He's also defenseless during those early Barrier clicks, so a hit then will sting a LOT. And he lacks Parallax's second target to deal with swarms -- but in fact, this is Ganthet's great ADVANTAGE over Plax. Multiple targeting must be EXTREMELY expensive in Heroclix; it's the only explanation why Ganthet can have significantly better stats almost across the board, longer range, roughly equivalent powers, the game's most exclusive TA and just be only 16 points more pricey.

So be glad Ganthet can only shoot one mook at a time.
And be glad that he's built for high-point games, where his support-style powers are best used.

Feats:
AUTOMATIC REGENERATION is kind of a must. If G gets that hurt, he needs the chance to either get better or Pulse Wave goodbye. PROTECTED is also good for when he's on the soft spot of his dial. The especially gutsy might try NOVA BLAST in case he falls on the one click he can safely do so.

Themes:
GLC, of course.

Comic accurate?
More or less.

In sum:
Everything Parallax could've been, but wasn't. Still gonna have trouble with V Icons Superman, but still pretty much the most powerful normal fig in the game.

Rating: 4.5/5

Today's review is Ganthet from the GLC Collector Set

He is the last surviving elder GL who gave Kyle Rayner his ring.

He is a Unique, 286 points, 10 range 1 target, 11 clicks of life, a flier, and a Quintessence

Speed: 11,10,10,9,9,9,8,8,8,7,7   Phasing first 6, Running Shot for 3

Attack: 12,12,11,11,11,10,10,10,9,9,9  TK for 3, Incap for 2, Psy Blast for 3, PW for 3

Defense:  18,17,17,17,16,16,16,16,15,16,16  Imperv for 2, Barrier for 3, Invuln for 4, Regen for 2

Damage:  5,5,4,3,3,3,3,3,4,4,5  Leadership for one, Outwit for one, RCE for 2, Perplex for 3, Outwit for 3

The Good:  High attack values with a long dial

Decent defense and some good damage abilities

Can move anywhere and Quintessence means limited feat need

The Bad:   286 points for this?

    WHY no running shot upfront

Should be at least a 12 range

TK, Incap, and Leadership are wasted points

Feats:   Go for Broke here folks…ICWO, Protected, Shellhead, Auto Regen are what I would use.  Inspiring Command can work in 1000 point games.

Overall:   Wow that is a lot of points for a click.  Is he good enough to front a 300 point team? NO.  He is made for high point games only.  His stats make him a monster, and he is much better than Parallax, but he is still basically unusable in the modern torny scene for the sole fact there is no legal support anymore to fit onto a 300 point team with him.

Constructed/Unrestricted:  3 / 5

Sealed/Draft:  N/A / 5

Overall:  3 / 5

captainn00b Hey guys sorry for my prolonged absense. I didn't have access to a computer for a long time. Anyway, to my review.

Today we are reviewing Ganthet from the GL Collector's Set.
286 points, 10 range one target, Quintenissence TA.

11 10 10 9 9 9 8 8 8 7 7 KO
Phasing for the first six, Running Shot for the seventh through ninth, and nothing for the last two.

12 12 11 11 11 10 10 10 9 9 8
Telekinesis on the first three, Incap on the next two, Psychic Blast on the sixth through the eigth, and finishes with Pulse Wave on the ninth through eleventh.

18 17 17 17 16 16 16 16 15 16 16
Impervious for the first two, Barrier for the next three, Invulnerability on the fifth, sixth, seventh and eight, and finishes with Regeneration.

5 5 4 3 3 3 3 3 4 4 5
Leadership on the first, Outwit on the second, RCE on the third and fourth, Perplex on the fifth through seventh, Outwit on the eigth through tenth and the last has nothing.

Pros:
Attack is a little above average.
Good defence powers.
Good damage powers.
Towers over Sinsiter figs in terms of power.
I heart Quintenissence.

Cons:
Defence and Speed are nothing new.
A little pricey.

Even through his average defence and speed and price I give this fig a 4.25 out of 5!
