Rurouni KJS All three versions of Mantis are close combat specialists, so my reviews will be brief

Rookie Mantis

boot speed

35 points

Team: none

Range: 0 x 1

DIAL:

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figures_dials.asp?dialid=10568&unitid=12005&universeid=4

A full dial of Leap/Climb, low damage and steady attack value makes Rookie Mantis a great POUNCE candidate (but note that the feat doesn't work with Exploit Weakness). VAULT is also a good choice for her. More than anything, her low cost makes her a great addition to any team, especially for tying up enemy bricks and grounded shooters. Low defense is her chief weakness, stunting her effectiveness in this role.

RATING: 3 of 5

Experienced Mantis

boot speed

50 points

Team: Avengers

Range: 0 x 1

DIAL:

She lacks mobility, starting with Flurry and not gaining L/C until click #3. But her TA means she can wear THUNDERBOLTS and she can punch through defenses through most of her high-attack-valued dial. Stronger defense makes her better tie-up than the Rookie but her higher cost offsets her worth in the role; consider DISINTEGRATE to maximize her effective as such.

RATING: 3 of 5

Veteran Mantis

boot speed

67 points

Team: none

Range: 0 x 1

No longer truly inexpensive, V Mantis is more of a straight-up attacker in her own right. She can get in the enemy's face by herself and can deal clicks to Impervious/Invulnerable targets all the time. Opening L/C lends itself to an alpha-strike with POUNCE, but makes her more pricey than she's worth, IMO.

DISINTEGRATE might be better on her. Mid-dial Charge is welcome to keep her a constant offensive threat.

RATING: 3.5 of 5

Today's review is Mantis from Supernova

No idea…you know where to check

All of these pieces have pretty good and consistent attack values.  The exp has the advantage of the Avengers team, meaning T-bolts or Alpha Flight.  Since Fantastic Forces is going to be retired in a few months, I am going to stop taking that that much into consideration.  Overall though, I see myself using the rookie the most.

She is 35 points, 0 range, 6 clicks of life, no AE, and no team

Speed:  Full dial of leap climb means pounce ahoy

Attack:  Very consistent for low points, reminds me of spymaster

Defense:  Big def from range, then decent def from close

Damage:  Can hit anyone with Impervious for 4 clicks of her dial, nice for 35 points

The Good:  Very consistent attack numbers

      Great for pounce

      Low cost

The Bad:   When she gets hit, she gets hit hard

Incap is a waste of points for the single click

Feats:   Pouncs, that’s all, don’t drive up the cost more

Overall:   I actually like this piece.  I am a big fan of low cost pieces that you get a lot of out.  Here is the strategy for using this piece.  Slap pounce on her.  Have her go out and hit someone with 8 range for 3 clicks.  Then, if you haven’t been hit thanks to the 17 def from close, hit em with the CCE or incap if you want to mess up the strategy and give them a click.  If she lives, use the EW to do more pop shots while she ties someone up.  For the 50 points total, that ain’t that bad.  Sure, she is neither game breaking or awful, she is more in between, kind of a one real use pony.  Or, you can use her high def from range to block attacks for the first click.  Then use her to tie up an opponent.  Either way, that is not bad for 35 points.  Give her a shot, I would if I had her.

Constructed/Unrestricted:  3 / 5

Sealed/Draft:  2 / 5

Overall:  3 / 5
