Francesco Rook's Favorite Heroclix Strategies

Here is a list of common strategies that can be employed to gain some kind of advantage over your opponent. These range from the fairly common to somewhat new. I’m not trying to teach anyone to play, I’m just saying these might be strategies that for some reason you hadn’t encountered or thought of yourself. If you have any questions or better yet, any strategies you think others could benefit from, feel free to e-mail them to me Francescorook@hotmail.com

  • Trick Shot – stealth character – Hindering terrain:
Trick Shot permits you to shoot through friendly or enemy characters. By placing a character with stealth on hindering terrain in front of your shooter, your shooter then becomes basically invisible. The enemy cannot target your stealthed character at all since he cannot draw a line of sight to your cover. This means that attacking is a one way deal.

  • Flying in and out without any break away rolls:
By using a low cost flyer to carry a beat stick, you can actually get a free break away if things start going south for you. By placing the attacking character in front and keeping the flyer in the back you can actually fly away at a moment’s notice and carry the beat stick without him having to break away. If the flyer is somehow flanked by the enemy, you can still roll twice (first for the flyer and if that fails, a second time for the fighter) to get your beat stick out of the way.

  • Stealth – Outwitter – elevated terrain:
By placing a character with Outwit on elevated terrain, he can reach anyone within line of sight (and 10 squares) that is not standing directly on hindering terrain. If that same elevated character has Stealth, he can stand on hindering terrain, see everyone but can’t be targeted at range by anyone (save the Ultimates TA or Trick Shot card).

  • TK into harms way:
By using TK you can move a friendly or enemy character (needs attack roll) up to 10 squares away. Instead sending your characters in harm’s way, you can TK an opposing character in the middle of your squad of B/C/F goons.

  • TK from above:
Since TK takes line of sight to the destination, you can TK a character anywhere if you are on elevated terrain. Behind enemy lines, into melee, to block LOS, etc.

  • Trick Shot – Mastermind:
Line up your pogs as a living wall and just shot to your heart’s content. If for any reason some damage would go through, you are still covered. If someone tries to base with your shooter, he will still have to break away to base your shooter. Veteran Nebula works great for this kind of cheesy attack.
