Mutant Menace

 

PLOT:

Magneto has waged war on the human populace and the X-men are once again planning to take down the mutant tyrant. Havoc has joined with the Brotherhood of evil mutants and drawn Cyclops away from the team into a trap to leave them without a field leader, meanwhile Magneto has enlisted the aid of the Shadow King who has captured Illyana Rasputin’s (Magick) psyche in the astral plane and only Prof. X and Pyslocke can free her. In downtown Manhattan a team of Brotherhood mutants led by Mystique is destroying the city with Avalanche creating powerful earthquakes. Morrow has fled to the Xavier Institute to inform the X-Men that Sabretooth has rejoined with the marauders and have set a trap with Vertigo and Harpoon to murder the remaining Morlocks . The Hellfire club have dispatched their queens and have hired the mutants Deadpool and Silver Samurai as assassins to take advantage of the chaos and eliminate the X-men. With the X-men left without leadership Wolverine has gone solo to take out Magneto himself. Storm now as acting field leader has formed a large force of X-men including reserves from other teams and the school of New Mutants to stop the chaos, but the government has warned if the war is not ended in twelve hours they are going to release a sentinel team to apprehend all mutants as terrorists.

SCENARIOS:

Brothers at War

At the beginning of the game Cyclops and Havoc will begin the game in a secluded area already within combat range of each other. If Havoc (the underdog) wins the battle he receives and extra 20 Victory points, if Cylops wins the battle he receives an extra 10 Victory Points.

Going Solo

Wolverine and Magneto should be placed in a secluded area to represent Wolverines attempt to assassinate the master of Magnetism. If Magneto (only Magneto) KO’s Wolverine, he rips the adamantium from his bones replace the Wolverine figure with the ® Wolverine from Mutant Mayhem to represent he feral rampage state. In his feral state Wolverine will attack the closest figure including (X) characters and will always push when possible.

Mutant Massacre

The Marauders are flushing out the Morlocks from the sewers and Sabretooth, Harpoon, and Vertigo are waiting above ground to murder the remaining Morlocks. Place this battle in another secluded part of the map. Marrow should lead a team to prevent the massacre. X-Men receive 100 bonus victory points if they save any Morlocks to the end of the game, Brotherhood receive an extra 50 bonus points if they kill all the Morlocks.

(V) Callisto (U) 62pts and 2 ® Morlocks (U) 32pts (total) vs. (V) Sabretooth (IC) 69pts, ® Harpoon (MM) 40pts, (V) Vertigo (MM) 65pts.

 

From the Shadows

The Shadow King has trapped Magick’s pysche on the astral plane and Professor X and Pyslocke have entered the astral realm from within the mansion to do battle for her rescue. Note in the comics its Psylocke’s psionic powers that keep the Shadow King trapped on the astral plane. Put a special counter anywhere on the map if Prof X and Pyslocke KO’s Shadow King replace the Counter with the (E) version of Magick if Pyslocke is KO’d during the battle with Shadow King he is instantly freed and he replaces the Special counter. Remove Prof X and Psylocke from the game after this battle concludes. This small battle is meant to played on a small separate map to represent the astral plane a custom or even a small blank sheet with squares could be used as a make shift map..

Contracts with the Hellfire Club

The Black and white Queen has hired Deadpool and Silver Samurai as assassins to eliminate the X-men. The assassins receive an extra 5 Victory points for each X-man they KO. X-Men players receives and extra 15 victory points for each assassin KO’d

Crosswinds and Earthquakes

This scenario involves most of the remaining figures with the exception of the following rules.

As long as Avalanche is on the map he can provide the following battlefield condition which can be turned on or off once per turn.

Earthquake- roll 2 dice on a roll of 2-5 Earthquake is not strong enough to cause damage, on a 6-8 the Earthquake causes 1 click of damage on 9-12 the Earthquake cause 3 clicks of damage to all character without the wing symbol (grounded)

As Long as Storm is on the map she can provide the following battlefield condition which can be turned on or off once per turn.

Crosswinds- same as feat card all characters with the wing symbol become grounded.

Time Is Up!

At the beginning of turn 12 the Government launches a 300pt sentinel and 2 sentinel troopers to oversee the apprehension of as many mutants as possible. On turn 12 players roll 2 dice the team with the highest value gains first control over the sentinel and the sentinel trooper, control rotates between the teams for the remainder of the game.

Notes:

The Brotherhood cost is 994 and the X-Men teams cost is 999 pts for the whole army with the exceptions of (E) Magic (CM) 36 pts and the ® Wolverine (MM) not being factored into the cost of the armies because they are scenario conditions. I recommend the Scenario be played with 4 players (2 people per team) either by sharing the actions or dividing the teams evenly. Please feel free to alter the teams as you need to as I used the figures used as examples due to the size of my limited collection. I tried to base the idea of the scenarios around popular events within the X-Men Universe. Any outdoor city map could be used but I recommend using a large one with open space to take account for all the scenario setup
