This was one of my fav-o-rites out of masques. Wumpus was often a FAST road to victory as it cleared the board of annoying blockers while attacking at the same time!

Constructed only got a four simply because it's a 3 defense creature for 5 mana, making it fairly easy to deal with for its cost.

This card is fun times.  It also had it's moment in constructed play.  I think it would be fairly strong in the current environment with the lack of regenerators available.  Him being a 3/3 is also nothing to laugh at.  Unfortunately, there have always been a decent amount of spells to deal with this guy in constructed.

As for limited he is definitely a first pick.  This guy is a huge superstar to open.  If some one passed this guy to me in a draft, I would take him out to dinner :)

Thrashing Wumpuss is one of my favorite cards from Masques block. I played him in my Nether-go type deck and usually loved drawing him (except against Rising Waters). In Limited he's a bomb that you want to open and not for anyone else to open.

In limited, the Wumpus is a great sweeper card to get rid of all of your opponenent's early creatures and can also finish them off if you have enough mana
available. In constructed, I don't like him as much since black has better sweeper cards available like Massacre or Perish.

Sometimes you get a very long-winded Scott. Sometimes you don't. Today, you don't. Thrashing Wumpus is a card that has seen it's day. At one point was good, but lost popularity with the proliferation of the Fires deck. In extended it's basically never used. the card has potential, but not in the current environment.

In limited, it's great, as it can sweep a board to victory quite often. Draft it early and often.

Okay, Thrashing Wumpus is actually okay in contructed. His Pestilence effect is remarkably better than the card Pestilence, because it is in a creature... a 3/3 force on the board. He clears the board, and swings for 3. His problem is that he dies if you go three or more, but still, the possiblility of a black card with a "Wrath of God" effect is good, especially in control-sy black-blue or mono black decks. I give this card a 3 in the type II it was in, a 4 if it were in the current format, and 2.5 in extended, because there is no effective Dark Ritual type card in that format, and most black cards aren't as effective without Dark Ritual.

In limited, anything of this type is remarkably good. For one thing, in draft, anything that's a 3/3 is pretty good, but to throw Pestilence into a format that had remarkably small creatures and was built around tricks, and interesting, semi-playable cards, was just nuts. This guy to me is a must in limited decks, and is always an early pick, getting a groan from the person who has to pass him because he is so good. I give him a 5 for Masques Block limited, but he gets a 4 everywhere else. This is because if you insert him into Invasion block limited, he becomes a hard play because the double black in his casting cost could be very hard for a three color deck, which most limited decks wound up being. Odyssey block limited right now could benefit from a card like this because of the raw deal Black got in Odyssey.

On a Stick. Beats with a stick. Pestilence on a stick. This guy is a stick, plain and simple. I've seen him in type 2, in block, and in limited... damn. He's the Wumpus you want on your team. Too many tricks with him to mention, this guy controls the board and then some. He messes with combat, your opponent's life total, and removing him is just bad news, since he's going to take someone with him on the way out the door.

Constructed Rating - 4
Limited Rating - 5
Wumpus Rating - Humpus Supreme

A card capable of creating such vast amounts of card advantage while itself being a considerable threat is hard to find. The fact that it has a reasonable casting cost and the activation is easy in a deck that's heavily black is what makes this guy a real winner.
