In limited, this guy is so far up the scale of
picks, let's just say it's "better than a first
pick." Even without the ability he grants, a 2/2
flier for three mana is well worth the cost.
When you add in the ability that makes all of
your creatures virtually untargetable, he rises
so high up the scale that there's no reason on
to always pick him. In casual, he's perfect in
being supremely annoying to your opponent while
not really being a hate card that makes people
not want to play against you any more. In
constructed, well, its too close to call. He may
make it in some form of control deck, or maybe
even in fish, but its borderline, and I think
right now he just missed the cut.
This card is pretty special. When you are
talking about forcing your opponent to have to
kill all of your creatures twice, things get a
little tricky. Some decks may add blue just for
this card. It's great for weenie strategies.
Also, it's great against monoblack control.
Casual players may not be so big on this card,
but it is definitely good in tournament play.
This is also a great card to have during a
limited situation as well.
A 2/2 flying creature for three mana isn't a
horrible buy in the first place, but when it
comes with an ability that essentially reads
"your opponent must waste two cards to kill this
creature", that creature is quite a bit better.
Keep in mind that Kira's ability isn't limited
to your opponent's spells or abilities; those
that you use are countered as well. I'm going to
rate this card slightly higher in casual play,
just on the grounds that there are a lot more
decent removal spells to be stopped.
In limited, I definitely won't pass this card
up. If I'm in blue, Kira will be scooped almost
immediately. As I stated above, 2/2 fliers for 3
mana are a decent buy -- this is even truer in
limited. Evasion abilities are always good to
have, and an early flier that is difficult to
remove could be a game-swinging creature.
An interesting concept, but many times Blue
doesn't give a rip about creatures. So Kira's
ability will be largely ignored, imho. In
limited, Kira is more useful. A 2/2 for 3, it's
a good drop with a nice ability, and since
spells your opponent would use to destroy
creatures can be few and far between in limited,
the ability becomes much more useful. In casual,
it's not exciting enough to get attention.
