Friday - Tidehollow Sculler

A good card in the Cruel Control and Reveillark decks, but as those two decks haven't seen as much play over the last month or so, the popularity of this card has dropped slightly. It is still quite good in the B/W decks though. He's basically like Ravenous Rats but better, even though they get the card back if they kill him. He's also an artifact, so artifact removal can take him down. If you're in the colors though this is a great card to maindeck because of the hand disruption.

Good in limited too, if you're playing Esper. Take their best card and make it a non-factor for long enough to gain control over the game.

I love disruptive effects attached to creatures. Hypnotic Specter is an all-time favorite of mine, Riptide Pilferer a newer favorite, and I even came around to Magus of the Moon after initially doubting him in a format full of Pyroclasms. Tidehollow Sculler is rapidly making his way onto that list, too. He's best against combo decks which have less ability to remove him, but he's decent everywhere; he just requires a little more thought to use than Castigate. I can't stress enough how much a well-aimed Duress effect plus an extra attacker is able to swing the game.

2 mana for 2/2 body and Thoughtsieze? Yes please. Well, they get the card back if it dies, but this is obviously very awesome. If you can't see why, I'm sure some other reviewer can tell you why.

Constructed: Nice idea, but it dies to easily. Rather use some other form off discard or removed from the game, like Thoughsize, Unmake, etc.

Casual: Can be annoyning with the right deck.

Limited: I am up in the air with this one. The white black makes it hard, but you get to see you opponents hand and it gives you valuable information on what they are playing. Not really a high pick.

Overall a interesting card that some players like, but not me.

The new Mesmeric Fiend with added P/T. The WB cost isn't really an issue with todays manabases and the added P/T is definatly worth it. I don't really see a deck that can make good use of this at the moment, the reason Mesmeric Fiend was good was because it could disrupt combo decks that couldn't remove it. Today we have thoughsieze to fill that role. I can see it casual WB aggro decks however and in limited it can remove key cards from opponents hand.
