Stonehewer Giant

How many good Equipment cards are there in Standard? Enough for this to be pretty powerful. Its stats are impressive if nothing else, and the ability to go pull a Loxodon Warhammer, or even just an Obsidian Battle-Axe out of your deck and equip it can be incredibly powerful on the attack.

Stonehewer Giant

Notice that Stonehewer Giant is a Warrior, which means you can use Obsidian Battle-Axe to give you a little speed bonus in actually using that ability. Searching up Tatsumasa or Sword of Light and Shadow in mid-combat is a tough play to beat. The only problem is that it still costs seven mana total. There is surprisingly little equipment in Lorwyn (I thought we were in the land of Celtic folklore with its swords in stones and spears of destiny), but a well-timed Deathrender or even Runed Stalactite can generate a lot of advantage for you.

Stonehewer Giant

The problem with this card is that it is really hard to find a right balance of creatures and equipments to put on those creatures. Too much creatures mean you'll never draw the equipment and there will be less stuff for the giant to search for, but too many equipment will mean that there's nothing to put them on. It's also very expensive to cast so I doubt it'll be very good in constructed.

It's cool for casual though as higher costing cards aren't as bad here and getting a plethora of equipment out has to be great.

In limited, there's not a lot of equipment so a lot of the time it'll end up as a 5 mana 4/4, which isn't that bad.

Thursday's card is Stonehewer Giant. For any deck heavy in good Equipment, Stonehewer Giant is a godsend even if he is a 5 mana creature. He's a big 4/4 with vigilance and in a color that has some good cards that like to be equipped such as Raksha, Golden Cub and various other of the Leonins from Mirrodin block. His ability lets you search for an Equipment and and put it to play then attach it to a creature for a mere one colorless, one white mana, good for getting out the most expensive yet good of the Equip artifacts like the Kaldra series, any of the new Morningtide Equipment, Sword of Light and Shadow and/or Sword of Fire and Ice, heck even Lightning Greaves to make your guys untargetable or even Umezawa's Jitte. Stonehewer Giant can make a lot of good equipment cards that were a little on the expensive side for many a deck playable.
