Friday - Flameblast Dragon

A card that will end the game very quickly if it's not dealt with. A 5/5 flyer for 6 already tends to do that, but throw in the Blaze effect whenever it attacks and it will kill your opponent soon. I don't think this is as good as Bogardan Hellkite (which rotated out with Time Spiral block), but it might get played in Jund decks if they become tournament competitive (although I don't think they will). It could also see play simply as a finisher for some random mid-range red deck; it's one of the best finishers to come along in a while.

In limited, this is great. Wipe out your opponent's army (or your opponent) while you swing in the air for 5, what else can you ask for?

Flameblast Dragon

There's a good reason why dragons are a staple of fantasy literature and gaming: they're big, aggressive, impressive, and intimidating. Flameblast Dragon more than lives up to its race's reputation. It either puts opponents on a short clock while burning away their defenses, or puts them on a really short clock. Not as many as options as Bant Charm, but it's a dragon, after all - subtlety was never their strong point. Effectiveness always was (or should be).

Flameblast Dragon

Dragons have always drawn their share of hate and this card will certainly do that. The truth is, deal with it quick or be hit for 10 the next turn. Two turns of this and your done. This guy will always attack. That is what flame breathing arial assault weapons do. However, in constructed, 6 mana is a big investment and getting him out early with tricks does little to make his second ability great. Limited bomb!!

Flameblast Dragon

Constructed: Nice Dragon. Neat ability. Burn a creature out of the way as you attack, or burn your opponent to get the extra damage in for the win. If you played him from your hand and he stays around to attack, you should be doing at least 5 damage with it's ability. Not as exciting as other Dragons before him for tournament play.

Casual: This is a great Dragon for all of those Dragon lovers out there.

Limited: Red can really be deadly in Shards sealed and draft. But it is slow and there is a good amount of removal. If he hits play and stays around to attack, it is game over. Top pick for both hate drafting and to actually use him.

Overall this Dragon will be the sleeper for this set.

5/5

What I love about this card is that alot of people were saying how this was broken. then they remembered its basically just firebreathing. However it actually is alot better than that. Firstly it can target creatures and secondly even if they chump their still going to be in for a whole lot of damage. In limited can you say bomb? Casual, its a dragon, whats not to love? However in contructed its just to expensive for what it does.
