Maelstrom Archangel

Every time she hits, you get to play a free card. Of course, if you're hitting with a 5/5 flier and getting through, you're probably winning already, but that ability goes a long way towards ensuring that your opponent can't undo your game with one card. He pretty much has to kill it immediately to truly "answer" it, otherwise that Oblivion Ring only handles the Archangel herself but leaves your opponent still scrambling to defeat whatever else she cheated into play for you. And any deck capable of producing WUBRG for the Archangel probably has plenty of other unpleasant surprises it would love to drop for free.

Thursday - Maelstrom Archangel

I expect that people will find an excuse to build a deck around this. Domain is quite viable, as proven by the 5cc deck we've seen over the last few months, and this is an excellent reward for being able to make all five colors. 5/5 is already huge, and it flies, but the ability can be game-breaking. To play any card from your hand for free after this lady hits is an unparalleled ability. Unfortunately, it is hard to reliably get this girl out on turn 5, but it can be done. I think it'll see play, and be a tier 1.5 or 2 deck.

Maelstrom Archangel

The Conflux fat pack contains a poster made from the art of several cards, the most prominent being Maelstrom Archangel, and with good reason - this character could easily become the icon of the entire set. A 5/5 creature with flying for five mana is unheard of, even at all five colors; her ability can be anything from underwhelming to crippling. This card is a winner in every sense of the word.

Thursday - Maelstrom Angel

I picture this angel finding a tricky way into play more often than not. The true five color decks might be able to squeeze a copy or two in. It's already a formidable creature at 5/5. Nothing to be ashamed of. She adds insult to injury though, by giving the attacker additional permanents at no cost. That's huge.

I'm not sure if there will be a strong tournament impact from this card, but it's definitely going to be one the less competitive players will be after.

WHOA WHOA WHOA.

THIS CARD IS REALLY GOOD!

How awesome is this card? It flys. It's a 5/5. It's converted mana cost is only 5. Sure you need one of each color but that isn't so hard to do these days. The payoff is definitely worth it if you build around this card correctly.

Playing any spell for free is stupid good. There are so many extremely powerful spells, some of which that cost 5+ mana to play, if you could drop one for free because of this card...wow. Talk about swinging with this and dropping a huge planeswalker and still having mana open for their turn, huh?

This card is stupid fun. Just way too fun.

Keep in mind that you don't have to deal damage to the player, just swinging with this guy and having them chump it will work. As long as it deals damage you get to drop a card for free. Doesn't have to be at their life, which helps out this cards playability a bit.

Overall I hope I can trade for a playset of these because I'm certainly not paying $10 a piece.

Sealed: 1/5
