Liliana of the Veil

Rock on, gold dust woman. Dig your (enemies') graves. Do you know of any decks you have that like to kill things in a way that almost can't be stopped? Do you have any copies of a certain white Titan that (doesn't) need a new friend? Does the idea of taking out every creature your opponent plays, because their deck is slightly slower to start than Liliana, appeal to you? Yes, she's that good. Be prepared.

Welcome back readers today’s card of the day is the other powerful planeswalker from Innistrad the new Liliana. Three mana planeswalkers are priced to be competitive and have abilities that match this card is no exception. The forcing each player to discard a card is symmetrical in practice but if your dropping a creature to reanimate or a card with flashback it certainly won’t feel that way. Making target placer sacrifice a creature can be an amazing response to a late game bomb such as if your opponent tapped out for Consecrated Sphinx or a non grave titan creature. Finally the ultimate is quite powerful and should be strategically used. In standard must decks running black could benefit from the addition of this card especially the newly revieived solar flare archetypes. In extended and modern this is quite powerful as well and I would expect it to see play in all sorts of strategies ranging from Solar Flare to Blue Black control decks. In eternal this has a chance to see play in decks that can support its cost and could make full use of its abilities. In casual and multiplayer this will be a big target painted on your forehead but all planeswalkers see a fair amount of casual play this will be no exception.  In limited straight bomb there is little to nothing to pick over this card, worth the splash and worth changing your deck for. Overall Liliana has a powerful new form that will be a defining competitive card in standard and other formats.

Michael "Maikeruu" Pierno Today's card of the day is Liliana of the Veil who has three abilities, three loyalty, and costs a reasonable three mana.  The +1 of each player discarding a card is nice for a dedicated Liliana style discard deck or at least can be somewhat disruptive to an opponent.  The second ability is very nice as just playing her and having the opponent sacrifice a creature is an excellent use of three mana, plus leaves her in play to potentially use her +1 or take an attack.  The -6 may be a bit tricky to pull off outside of a mono-Black sacrifice theme to keep the field clear, but the potential for removing threats, lands, or whatever is impressive.  Overall this planeswalker is going to be a popular addition to Black decks for the second effect alone while the others effects are just a nice bonus.

In Limited this is an easy first pick as removal, though the double Black is a hindrance, and should work as a nice beginning for a Black deck.  The other effects may not be as viable, but are still valuable and worth using.  A Sealed deck may have a harder time playing her early as two colors are needed, though the two colors for any opponents allows the ultimate to remove one with any choice.
