Elvish Mystic

Why did they make a new version of Llanowar Elves? Do they not want to reference Dominaria anymore? Did they not want a plurality of "elves" represented as a 1/1? And why doesn't it have the Mystic creature type, like all
those creatures from Onslaught?

Honestly, it's kind of hilarious how much controversy this little guy has stirred up. It's another mana elf for 1. It'll be as good as all the others.

Elvish Mystic

I'm starting to get a little worried by the number of Llanowar Elves variants around, if only because almost anything gets degenerate when you have enough of it in one place. Other than that, this is about as straightforward as cards get; anywhere Llanowar Elves was good, this little guy will be good too. Any green deck that you might be making that wants that extra speed, that possibility of casting a three-cost card on turn two, in a form that can also attack and block occasionally, will like this card. If I'm honest, I think it's a little unfortunate that they didn't just bring Llanowar Elves back, as M14 is rather light on anniversary elements (even if you count that one Plains that really looks like one of the Alpha Plains). Yeah, celebrate by looking forward and use a name that depicts a single creature as opposed to a plural and all that, but this game is 20 years old after all.

Today's card of the day is Elvish Mystic which is a one mana Green 1/1 elf that taps for one Green mana.  This is the latest in the Llanowar and Fyndhorn Elves family and is functionally identical aside from the name change.  As a cornerstone card for both ramp and elf tribal decks this will naturally see a great deal of play across formats and can even join the previous iterations in the older settings or Commander.

In Limited this is an excellent card to open in Sealed and well worth an early pick in Booster as it is both acceleration and a 1/1 for one.
