Archangel Avacyn/Avacyn, The Purifier

The new Avacyn is surely destined to do crazy things in Commander settings. Don't make the mistake I made and misread her abilities as being counter-synergistic with each other - she saves your creatures when you want them to be saved, and when you are ready, you can have one of them die (Phyrexian Vault, anyone?), sweep your opponents' side of the table, and have her go on the attack. If she's your general, your opponents might see it coming and play around it, but at the risk of being unable to deal with you're currently doing, and even her un-transformed side is formidable in combat.

Archangel Avacyn/Grumpy Avacyn

The casting face is pretty amazing. a 4/4 flying vigilant angel that throws an indestructible effect on all your creatures for a turn, and of course, throw flash in for good measure. That's where the good stops with this card. I mean, burning everything except yourself and Avacyn for 3 is nice, however, the flip isn't immediate, so there's a good chance for your opponent to hit and hit hard before it goes off. often times, the smart player won't target avacyn herself because she's already used her good one-off. secondly, burning your own creatures is always tricky. Bottom line, it's playable, and I'd suggest 3 of would be the sweet spot, just to potentially protect your own creatures from the red flip-side.

Constructed: 3.5 (it loses points for the flip)
Limited: 3.5
Casual: 3
Multiplayer: 4 (Where the flip does the most damage)
EDH: 3.5
