Falkenrath Aristocrat

I think this card is actually a lot stronger even than a lot of competitive decks rate it. It fits in a vampire-themed deck on every level, from mechanics to flavor, and can also counterintuitively be played in a human-heavy deck based on getting it as many +1/+1 counters as possible. The counters, in turn, feed into a theme which the Aristocrat's colors are surprisingly good at (cf. Urge to Feed, Volt Charge), and together these features really set it apart from your average Ball Lightning-style haste creature. It even does exciting things in multiplayer, being in the right colors for cards like Grave Pact and Mortivore. There's so much to like about this card.

Falkenrath Aristocrat (4/11)

Back in Innistrad, Falkenrath Aristocrat was a nightmare to play against. She's a 4/1 with evasion and haste, which is hard enough to fight, but her other ability makes her the terror she was. In conjunction with leaves-the-battlefield triggers, like Blood Artist, it's not hard to use her as a massive combo piece. She also protects herself and makes herself potentially bigger. She’s hard to kill and hard to stop, outside of toughness-lowering or -1/-1 counter effects.

She's an interesting amalgam of a combo piece and an efficient beater on her own. What's not to love? She may be a bit too weird to work in Modern, but she's certainly not outclassed; it's just a lot easier to keep her from devastating the board with all of Modern's various toys.
