Kazuya Mitamura Wins Pro Tour Honolulu

Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour Crowns New Champion

This weekend Wizards of the Coast returned to Hawaii for Pro Tour Honolulu after its first Hawaiian appearance in 2006.  Kazuya Mitamura from Chiba, Japan was crowed champion and took home $40,000.  Michael Hebky from Prague, Czech Republic, Paul Rietzl from Los Angeles, California and Conley Woods from Fort Collins, CO rounded out the top four, each taking home cash prizes.   For more player information visit www.wizards.com.

Since 1996, Wizards of the Coast has given away more than US$33 million in prize money, which includes both cash prizes and scholarship awards.

Pro Tour Honolulu was a three-day Block Constructed and Booster Draft format event with a prize purse of $230,795.  In addition to the main tournament, the on-site activities included an extensive public event schedule and opportunities for players to meet with Magic card artists, including Dave Kendall and Christopher Moeller, who signed artwork throughout the weekend.

The Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour is the highest form of competitive play for the collectible trading card game. It is a series of high payout tournaments held throughout the world and run by the Wizards of the Coast "Organized Play" division. Next stop on the Pro Tour will be Austin, Texas, which will be followed by the World Championships in Rome, Italy in mid-November.

About Magic: The Gathering

Introduced in 1993, Magic: The Gathering is the premier and original trading card game that inspired an entirely new game genre. Gamers, deemed “Planeswalkers,” are empowered to control their destiny through the use of illustrated cards featuring spells and magical creatures. Combining the dynamics of a card game with the excitement of trading and collecting, Magic offers fun for casual players, as well as options for highly competitive tournament players.
