Board Name: Area375 G/B Nagdu Go Land: 10 Forest 8 Swamp 4 Illusionary Castle Creatures: 4 Nagdu Cannibal 4 Land Hog 4 Wood Shaman 4 Cycloptic Wurm 3 Great Ape 2 Darkwood Treefolk Other: 4 Dark Ritual 3 Vengeance 3 Merikiian Birth Ceremony 3 Merikiian Harvest 2 Berserker's Rage 2 Words of Servitude Sideboard: 2 Subterranean Terror 4 Spitting Chameleon 3 Dark Séance 2 Prejudicial Extermination 4 Beast and Burden Ok, now let's breakdown the deck: Land: First of all, all the uncommon sac-lands seem to be imbalanced. They would be fine if they didn't come into play tapped, but other than that, they're pretty useless in and out. Also, I didn't like the Endo-lands. However, on the other hand, Illusionary Castle seems to be the best non-basic land in the Horizons set. Although it only produces colorless mana, it accelerates fatty production exponentially. A definite play. You may even come across an artifact deck if you keep getting replies, Mr. Peatross. On a minor note, the land mix was just appropriate with lack of good non-basic lands. Creatures: Nagdu Cannibal seems to be a healthy creature, with the possibility of coming in at anywhere from a stout 6/6 to a massive 13/13 creature. Also, it is sped up considerably by the addition of Dark Ritual. Land Hog is also an impressive card. A 3/3 Trample for 3 mana is not bad at all, but have it OMC'd and you have yourself a Harrow, with he Hog acting as the sac'd land. Good both ways. Wood Shaman is your basic mana creature. Had to have em'. I mean, its green. I don't fully understand the rulings behind the Cycloptic Wurm, but it seems to me that the Wurm can only be distribute damage to one creature if it is blocked. I think that's it. Anyway, solid fatty, and bigger than Ancient Silverback, who I believe it is modeled after. Now, the Great Ape is probably gonna be a 3/3 Trample when it comes into play, and it would be stupid to OMC it. Now, the Treefolk is your standard blocker. A 3/9 that gets bigger too, however? Well, that's an added bonus. Other: DARK RITUAL IS IN THE HORIZONS SET!!! Well, good news for black, and with Dark Rit combined with Green speed again, this deck will pump out those 8 fatties locked in the deck. Vengeance is your standard removal spell. A little steep at 3 mana for such a limited removal, but whatcha gonna do? There weren't many better ones. Anyway, Merikiian Birth Ceremony is the lay out the Hill Giant tramplers pretty fast. Also makes it easier to cast the Wurm at the cost of 5G. Merikiian Harvest is land. Like New Frontiers. Berserker's Rage is a pump spell, and the only playable on form what I can see as far as green and black are concerned. The Word of Servitude, as far as I can see, can completely shut down someone's early game. First turn DR plus a Words of Servitude on that fatty or high cost sorcery well slow you opponent down considerably if they can't discard it. Shutdown, but it isn't always reliable so it is at a 2 count. The sideboard goes as follows: it is a morph sideboard. It adds a combo to the deck. Beast and Burden is an awesome card destroyer and a very playable pump card. Now, use the Chameleon to change your own, say, Cycloptic Wurm's color too something like Blue. Destroy it, put the counters on a Land Hog or something, and than, if the mana allows, tap two swamps, and play a dual Dark Ritual to send out a 16/16 creature. Now, the combo isn't EXTREMELY probable, but the cards used are very versatile, so they can work independently or in other combinations. Basically the theme is pump out creatures...The set lacked good bears to put in the deck, but hey, those 3/3 Tramplers are good replacements. There also wasn't a multitude of fatties, but that's ok too. Just stick with the mana generation and the Dark Rituals and you should do fine. Watch the Control decks, though. It may get ugly... Peace out. - Area375 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
