 N.'s End
Byakugan into Treeyakugan
Oct 2, 2009

Hello again, to N.'s End.  Things have been a bit crazy here, I've been all wrapped up in planning a game of Pathfinder (I love it so much!  Hit me up if you want to talk PF!) so I almost forgot about this until I check'd my "Place where I put Deck's" folder.  One deck I saw here kind of caught my eye, as it's an idea I myself was tooling around with myself.  This was actually sent as a set of 3 decks(!), but this was the one I wanted to work with the most.  So let's give it a look, shall we?

P.S. I will probably eventually get to that star deck you sent me to ;)

This is a pretty fun build, but let's try to make it sexy, just like Neji!

T0

-1x Cipher Corps [Decoding the Code...this is a horrible name for any effect...just horrible...]

-2x Hanabi [Daughter of the Main Branch]

+2x Choji [Infuriation]

+3x Hanabi [Bond of Family]

+2x Naruto [Legacy of the 4th Hokage]

Choji in the deck is very, very useful.  He takes coins off of BBQ and Transmitter, as well as anything your opponent will play, making it a great card to run in threes.  Same with Hanabi, having a card that can pull your best and most platoon/squad capable ninja is awesome.  Besides, we're going to try running Hanabi/Hiashi plat, so hitting her is a fun card to land.  And the Naru is in there for both squading and a nice draw, which makes him pretty versatile to the deck.

T1

-2x Shikamaru [Formation]

-1x Shikamaru Nara & Choji Akamichi [Long Time Partners]

+2x Temari [Wind Scythe]

+2x Haido [Fake Utopia]

The reason for the swap here is we're going to go with Shikamaru as a T2, so we can't have him in this turn slot.  As a solid replacement, we have Temari [WS] to take his place, so you still have the same support with a good effect.  Cutting out the plat is mainly because it can't do anything better that Choji or Shikamaru can't do better.  Haido is here because of Taijutsu's oldest problem, a lack of support.  Having a 4 support ninja at any point in the game is incredible, but having it this early can  be game winning.

T2

-2x Neji [Attack on Chakra Points]

+2x Shikamaru [Unwillingness]

+1x Haido (Transformed) [Healing Power of the Stone]

While I really like Neji, he's going to have to take a later turn slot as well, but he's much more effective where he's going to be.  Shika in this deck is another strong choice, as he's just a strong card that'll allow you to swing through, which will be pretty nice with another card I have planned.  As for Haido...yeah, he's there.

T3

-1x Shikamaru [I Got Your Back]

-1x Choji [Reliable Partner]

+2x Anbu (The Foundation) [Will of the Foundation]

+1x Kankuro [Tactician]

+1x Salamander [Lifeless Warrior]

Shika got cut mainly because we already have him at our T2 slot, so he's not needed here, just like Choji is being play'd in threes on T0, so that's why he's cut.  The Anbu is a good call, as with all the charging you'll be doing in this deck, it's nice to have an ambush ninja to pull out when you need it.  As for Kank/Sal, this is another good example of giving the support to the deck that Haido does, as we're about to start getting to the high combat ninja with no support...

T4

-2x Hizashi Hyuga (why he chose death)

-1x Homura Mitomon (surveillance)

-1x Koharu Utatane (senior advisor)

-1x Shikaku Nara (as a father)

+1x Neji [Seeing Through the Wall]

+2x Inoichi [As a Father]

I question the advisors so much...so very, very much...but the reason for this is really just keeping things running smoothly.  Neji is here as a great Byakugan user as well as a good way to use all the chakra we're building up.  That's exactly why Inoichi is here too.  Just a great way to lock up your opponent's game plan while hammering away at them with your cards.

T5

-1x Neji & Hizashi [Decoy of the Main Branch]

Cutting the plat here because again, Neji does more by himself then with a platoon.  Simple, yet elegent.

T6

Yeah, you're good here.

Missions

-3x Respective Dreams

-2x Caged Bird

-2x Attack From the Blind Spot

-3x Pledge Under a Starry Sky

-1x Advisors

+3x Transmitter

+1x Long Awaited Reinforcements

+3x BBQ

Lots of changes here.  We're going for missions that'll always have a good effect when hit, so we had to remove the Respective Dreams/Pledge Under a Starry Sky combo since it's not too reliable.  Caged Bird had to leave too, but we're really not losing it too much, since we still have Inoichi there to help control the board.  Advisors...just not a fan...And the missions I add'd  will help a lot with one of the new squads in the deck.

Jutsu

-3x Emission of Chakra

-2x Last Resort: Eight Gates Assault

-2x Hundred Power Palms

-2x Gentle Fist Style: 8 Trigrams 64 Palms

+3x Gentle Fist: Air Palms

+2x 8 Trigrams 128 Palms

+3x Deep Forest Creation

I wish Emissions worked better, but just about everything in this format cost specific symbols, making it very expensive just about all the time.  You could sideboard it, but it's too expensive to use now.  Last Resort isn't bad, but we need to focus on power with our cards, which is why Gentle Fist: 8 Trigram and Hundred Power Palms are gone, they just don't have reliable enough power.  I feel a bit hypocritical saying that, as 128 is a flip card as well, but it should be able to on average kill one ninja, so I look at it as reliable enough.  The DFC is working with the other side of this deck, the Tree side, so we're trying to give you as many ways to control the board as you can.

Platoons

+1x Hanabi & Hiashi [Strict Discipline]

+1x Temari & Kankuro [Menace of the Sand]

Hanabi & Hiashi is a very strong card to hit on T4, especially if you got out the rest of your support.  With his ability, chump blocking is really the only way to go against him, which will allow you to whittle down your opponent's defenses.  And if they don't block, you get a free discard with a great stat'd ninja.  And as for Temari & Kankuro, it's another good card for hand control that'll allow you to further shape things in your own favor.

Squads

+1x Naruto & Yamato [Teamwork]

+1x Naruto & Hinata [Sudden Reunion]

+1x Neji & Hintata [Eminent Clan]

As per normal, everything in your squad deck should be used as flexibly as possible.  Naruto & Yamato makes great use of the BBQ and Transmitter in the deck, Naruto & Hinata are great to hold back your opponents, and Neji & Hinata is another great hand control card.  Each one will add a lot of versatility to your deck.  Now let's pull it all together and see what we've got!

T0

3x Choji [Infuriation]

3x Hanabi [Bond of Family]

2x Naruto [Legacy of the 4th Hokage]

2x Hinata [Strong Spirit]

T1

2x Temari [Wind Scythe]

2x Haido [Fake Utopia]

T2

2x Shikamaru [Unwillingness]

1x Haido (Transformed) [Healing Power of the Stone]

T3

2x Anbu (The Foundation) [Will of the Foundation]

1x Kankuro [Tactician]

1x Salamander [Lifeless Warrior]

T4

2x Neji [Seeing Through the Wall]

2x Inoichi [As a Father]

T5

2x Yamato [Gene of Destiny]

T6

2x The First Hokage [Matchless Hero]

Missions

3x Transmitter

2x Long Awaited Reinforcements

3x BBQ

Jutsu

3x Gentle Fist: Air Palms

2x 8 Trigrams 128 Palms

3x Deep Forest Creation

2x Disguise Jutsu

Platoons

1x Hanabi & Hiashi [Strict Discipline]

+1x Temari & Kankuro [Menace of the Sand]

Squads

1x Naruto & Yamato [Teamwork]

1x Naruto & Hinata [Sudden Reunion]

1x Neji & Hintata [Eminent Clan]

Well, this is the new "Treeyakugan" build of Earth, and I hope this advice helps you out.  It should work as a strong control deck that hold back your opponent while you simply walk through them.  Be sure to modify this deck as you see fit, possibly throwing in an AFTBS or Pressure as you see fit, and also to throw in an extra copy of any squad you want, as one can sometimes (rarely) be enough.

As always, I'm looking for new decks to review and tweak (If I get sent something I really like, I may just do a review of why I like it so much!) so hit me up with your ideas and I'll try to get back to you!
