Jeffthebear's Cavern
Deck Help From Jeffthebear
December 15, 2006

Hi there, I read your article on pojo and hoped that you could help me get my deck ready for competitive play. I'm running the common Fire/Water theme, but my area is VERY heavy with MP decks...so I want to do something with this deck which can counter those decks, while being very powerful as a beatdown deck in its own right, kinda taking the aggro theme in most fire/water decks and turning it into a defensive deck that can still dish out damage.

My game style is hitting fast and strong, with lots of draw power because I have bad luck and I need all the cards I can get...I've got enough christmas money to possibly grab a box and a couple of starters and packs but as much as I'd like some Kakashi ES I don't want to invest 50+ dollars just in SRs...I'm playing local tourneys not gencon :P

This is my current deck:

Ninja (25)
Turn 0:
3 Sasuke [AoC]
2 Konohamaru [HG]
2 Naruto [NTC]
The sasuke are obviously my best 0 drop like most decks, the konohamaru are there for speed obviously, and naruto is a great 0 drop as well that can be great as a late drop too..

Turn 1:
2 Temari [WC]
2 Dosu Kinuta [Sonic]
I splash a little more for temari, this way I can get a crazy sasuke on turn 1...dosu's there for obvious reasons but i save him for ninjas that aren't valid like suzume so i can get rid of their abilities...

Turn 2:
2 Demon Bros Meizu
2 Demon Bros Gouzu
These are just good support cards since my deck lacks late turn power...

Turn 3
1 Hayate Gekko (Detecting)
2 Haku (vanilla)
Detecting a plan can help me get rid of some missions that are commonly found in MP decks and plus he's an okay 3 drop, better than haku.. hakus just there to fill space

Turn 4
2 Kakashi (Vanilla)
1 Suien
1 Zabuza (vanilla)
These jonin are here just to have a high level of power...I'd like to use kurenai instead of the vanilla zab and my single suien but I'm afraid to splash even more...

Turn 5
1 Zabuza Momochi
unfortunately i only have one but ill definitely get more later

Turn 6
2 3rd Hokage (VG)
provides some much needed support and healing

Jutsus: 9
3 Kunai
3 Trigram
3 Fireball jutsu
the kunai are there to surprise my opponents, I like getting him with temari late game and dropping a few kunai to really surprise my opponent. trigrams are there for removal of course and the fireball jutsu are great for "unvalid-ing" my opponents tough ninja..

Missions: 6
3 Bingo Book
2 Tora
1 Appearance of Unknown Rivals
a lot more draw power since there are a lot of one-ofs.

So, all in all, this deck can rack up 8 battle rewards within the first few turns but realllly has no staying power once my opponent gets his jonin and fourth hokages out,..
hopefully you can help me make the dream of all anti-MPers out there and give me some advice on how to make my deck good :)

thanks in advance,
alex from hawaii

----------

I must say this email definitely intrigued me because he wants to play fire/water with heavy defence against MP and Alex since you were the most polite about asking for help I will be more then happy to help you ok. You were talking about how you want to get early settlement’s and honestly I have 3 of them and do not use them, Honestly he’s good don’t get me wrong but in a fire build with water you main 5 turn drop should be only Zabuza. So I wouldn’t worry I Don’t run them and I do just fine. However if you ever go fire- wind or Mono-Fire I would think about getting them but for water-fire don’t worry.

Ok your first turn drops are amazing no problems with them at all Infact I run the exact same ones and numbers of them so that looks good.

Your turn 1 drops are a little weird, I don’t quite know why Temari wind charmer is in there, simply because he effect only activates when Justus’s are being used against her team and more often then not players wont use good or expensive or any Jutsu at all to kill a Sasuke + Temari team early game. It’s more important to run violent temper because the intimidation of losing a card from their hand will often score you some battle rewards therefore it adds to your speed and is more beneficial. Dosu looks good honestly I run him but to be honest I never understood what makes him as good as people say I mean he damaged one ninja of you choice so yeah but after that he’s usually gone and you lose ninja advantage. If you were running any form of wind I’d say run Sakura Determination because she basically has 3 support and 3 mental power . So I’m going to put her in your side deck for when you run into mental and take out Dosu for her when you play an MP deck.

Turn 2 I think this is the portion that needs the most help your running 4 demon brothers without end of the demon??? Yeah so don’t run them especially if you want some mental counteraction going on.
Instead of them throw in 2 Kabuto-Withdrawl. Seriously this card alone wrecks MP decks and has the same support as demon bros. Plus mental power of 2. This card will automatically kill off that first chuunin exam and can defend against Ibiki plus if your playing an opponent that has fire-water also it can take care of that pesky appearance of unknown rivals. So why not right. Then I would run a Yoroi Akado Because he sucks Chakra like a beast and by the time turn 2 hits they have built up Chakra from pet tora’s or appearance of unknown rivals so he’s a beast give him a try plus he has support.

Turn 3 Your turn three is lacking a bit I would play 2 Hayate Judgement because he is the best turn 3 drop in the game he can make sure what ninja’s you want alive stay alive and he has 3 support, if you are worried about mental side deck in for the detecting its no use having him in there to be dead weight. You said your deck is lacking support put him in and you’ll see how that one point of support makes a difference. Then as for haku just forget him al together unless you can get your hands on an SR version I know its hard as even I who has bought countless boxes only have 1. So instead I would say throw in the new ebisu that draws you a card same support as the haku your running but he draws you a card and adds speed.

Turn 4 ok honestly DO NOT PLAY VANILLA ZABUZA DON’T!!! Kakashi looks good however I’m going to have you running Sharingan eye so you’ll need to throw in 3 Kakashi vanilla ok. Suien is horrible unless you are running end of the demon or Twin snake sacrifice so lets drop him all together. Just run three Kakashi.

Turn 5 This is a big problem only having 1 Zabuza honestly your going to get clobbered and there’s no point at all in running fire-water. Seriously I gave you a built so you wouldn’t have to spend too much but seriously spend the money to get another 2 you need 3. If you continue to have an extreme problem Alex email me back wit your address and ill send you the extra’s you need I have lots. Now people don’t get it in your head I’m going to send you cards all the time I just happen to have a few extra Zabuza lying around that I can spare.

Turn 6 No problem 2 third Hokage = ok

Jutsu:

Take out Kunai I know they can surprise you opponent but they just aren’t worth the deck space. Please take my advice on this. 3 trig ram look good and I’d cut down to two fireball Jutsu and use them with Zabuza I hope your familiar with the fireball combo and not having the team that’s using the fireball attack. You just have one of you teams attack who’s not going to win attack then have Zabuza who on a different team use it and then kill that ninja and then the crappy team can score too and Zabuza’s team is basically uncontested but use it with Zabuza. Throw in a Sharingan eye or two depending on what you have. Now you have all these water ninja and mission but no water jutsu then there’s no point you may as well run mono fire. So a few cheap and easy water cards to acquire run 2 Giant Vortex Jutsu it clears the whole field basically if you pull it off on your opponents big team they are over. Then add 1 or 2 water prisons depending on what you can grab then you should have your 9 jutsu or so which is good.

Missions:

3 mission of capturing pet tora is good. So just add one more. And then take out the bingo books for 3 appearance of unknown rivals. If you ever played yugioh this card is like the pot of greed that never ends. Lol

So there you go your decks done now lets unveil it…..
